Mac Jones: A Brief Biography

Mac Jones plays as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. He has big shoes to fill after the departure of Tom Brady but the youngster had been impressive in his rookie season for the Patriots. He won the College Football Playoff National Championship with the Alabama Crimson Tides in 2021, after which he was drafted by the New England Patriots.

Mac Jones’ Early Life and Background

Mac Jones was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He used to be a child model, and actor appearing in various commercials. Jones attended The Bolles School in Jacksonville and even led them to a 4A title in his senior year.

Jones enrolled at the University of Alabama with a scholarship but he was redshirted after being charged with a DUI. He became the starting quarterback after two seasons with the Crimson Tides in the second half of the 2019 season. As the regular starter for the Crimson Tides in the 2020 season, Jones finished the season with 4500 passing yards, 41 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. He helped the Tides to an undefeated season and even won the Rose Bowl.

Mac Jones NFL Draft

Mac Jones forgo his final year of college and entered the 2021 NFL Draft as one of the best quarterback prospects. He was the 15th overall selection by the New England Patriots, in Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the first quarterback to be selected by the Patriots in Round 1 of the NFL Draft since Drew Bledsoe in 1993. Other notable players from the 2021 NFL Draft Class include wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase, quarterback Trey Lance, and linebacker Micah Parsons.

Mac Jones’ NFL Journey

Mac Jones completed his rookie season with the Patriots. He was named the starting quarterback for the 2021 season after competing with quarterback Cam Newton (released during the final roster cuts).

Jones set the record for the highest NFL completion rate percentage in a debut by a rookie in the first match as a Patriots player (against the Dolphins). He maintained his stellar form throughout the season and became the first NFL rookie quarterback to have a completion percentage of over 80 in consecutive games. He finished the regular season with 3,801 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and a 67.6 completion percentage ( all of which are the highest among rookie quarterbacks in 2021).[70] He was the only rookie quarterback to lead a team to a winning record and playoff appearance. Although the Patriots did not make it past the Wild Card round in the 2021 Playoffs, Jones made 2 touchdown passes and a total of 232 passing yards.

In the 2022 NFL season, Mac Jones struggled in the first three games due to a change in the offensive coordinator of the Patriots. Jones had an ankle injury during a Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, during which he threw three interceptions. He suffered an ankle sprain, which necessitated missing New England's subsequent three games.

Mac Jones is one of the best drafts by the Patriots in recent years. He became the starting quarterback in his rookie season after signing a four-year rookie contract with a $15.6 million guarantee. Mac Jones in his rookie year in the NFL completed 352 passes in 521 attempts, covering 3801 yards for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in the 2021 regular season. He led the Patriots to their first postseason spell after Tom Brady's departure. Jones helped the Patriots clinch their playoff spot and entered into the Wild Card Round for a matchup with the Buffalo Bills. They lost to the Bills by 47-17. He became the first Patriots rookie to receive Pro-Bowl honors. He finished second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and was named in the 2021 PFWA-All-Rookie Team. Mac Jones remained the starter for the New England Patriots in the 2022 Season too. In the Thanksgiving Day game against the Minnesota Vikings, Jones had his best game of the year, passing for a career-high 382 yards and two touchdowns, but the Patriots lost 33-26.
