About Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are one of the most popular teams in the NFL. Despite only having won one NFL title, in 1969, the year before the NFL and American Football League merged, the Vikings have a long and illustrious history. The Vikings' greatest run of success began with Bud Grant's appointment as head coach in 1967. Grant, who would later be inducted into the Hall of Fame, led the Vikings to all four of their Super Bowl appearances. The Vikings have one of the best winning percentages in the NFL since their debut in 1961. They are one of just seven NFL teams to have at least 15 wins in a regular season as of 2022, and they have at least three victories in every season save for 1962. The team has qualified for the playoffs 28 times since the merger, third-most in the league (trailing only the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers).

The club participated in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX, and XI, although none of those games saw a victory. Additionally, dating back to 1978, they have lost each of their past six trips in the NFC Championship Game. The Pro Football Hall of Fame currently has 15 players from the Vikings. The Minnesota Vikings compete in the NFC North division of the league. The estimated value of the Minnesota VIkings is currently $3.92 billion.

Minnesota Vikings Roster 2023-24

The Vikings have a strong roster heading into the upcoming NFL season with wide receiver Justin Jefferson arguably the most important player for the squad. Left tackle Christian Darrisaw looks to be another important player for the team with exemplary defensive performances in the 2022 NFL season. Running back Dalvin Cook, defensive back Za'Darius Smith and defensive end Danielle Hunter are also very strong players in the squad who made it possible for the Vikings to have a great season in the NFC last year. 2023 NFL Draft pick Jordan Addison (wide receiver) and Mekhi Blackmon (cornerback) will be looking to make an impact in the squad and definitely make it into the rotation for the already flourishing Vikings' squad.

Minnesota Vikings Championships

The Minnesota Vikings have one of the highest playoff appearances in the history of the league. With 31 playoff appearances to their name the Vikings have a surprisingly low number of Championships to their name. The Minnesota Vikings have managed to win only one NFL Championship in 1969 (pre the 1970 NFL-AFL merger). The Vikings have won 4 Conference Championships and 21 Divisional Championships too.

The Vikings have the best regular season and overall winning percentage among NFL teams without a Super Bowl championship, as well as the most playoff runs, division titles, and (tied with the Buffalo Bills) Super Bowl appearances. Their total record is 524-451-11.

Along with having the most conference championship appearances among non-winning Super Bowl teams, they are one of just three teams to have participated in a conference championship every decade since the 1970s, joining the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

FAQs

Quarterback Frank Tarkenton is considered as the best Minnesota Vikings player of all time. Tankerton became the starting quarterback for the Vikings in his rookie season and began a career that has put him in the VIkings history books. He led the VIkings to 6 NFC Central division titles. He has even won an NFL Offensive player of the year award in 1975 along with an NFL MVP award.

The Minnesota Vikings home stadium is the U.S. Bank Stadium located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The stadium is built on the site of the former VIkings stadium called the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. It was the first fixed-roof stadium built in the NFL since Ford Field in Detroit, which opened in 2002.

The Vikings were formed as an expansion team in the NFL in 1960. As a nod to Minnesota's significant Scandinavian American history, they are named for the Vikings of medieval Scandinavia.

The Minnesota Vikings have an iconic helmet which has remained unchanged since its inception. From Fran Tarkenton in 1961 to Everson Griffen in 2016, every Vikings player has donned the famous horned helmets. The horned helmets are a nod to the culture of the Scandinavian Viking heritage in Minnesota along with portraying the wildness of the team in a berserk mood.
