Minnesota Vikings Roster

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, competing in the NFL in its NFC North division. When the Vikings decided to move on from Kirk Cousins and longtime defensive staple Danielle Hunter, it was a clear sign that they were going into retool mode. Teams with young superstar wide receivers like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison don’t need to go into full rebuild mode. However, when they brought Sam Darnold on a 1-year prove-it deal, before drafting future signal caller in JJ McCarthy, it was a clear sign that Minnesota was not putting all eggs in one basket. Luckily, it was the right move as evidenced by how shallow the Vikings QB room has become after JJ McCarthy went down for the season with a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Former 3rd overall pick from the 2018 draft is the clear starter under center but QB depth behind him is very thin. After parting ways with Mattison in the offseason, the Vikings needed to load their ball carrier room and they did that by snagging Aaron Jones from their divisional rival Packers. After getting extended, Jefferson will be back once again to form a fearsome 1-2 punch with Addison on the outside. T.J. Hockenson will be tasked to act as a security blanket for Darnold in the middle once he returns from the injury he suffered last season. The Vikings, who feature one of the most underrated tackle tandems in the whole league, will see Darrisaw and O’Neil once again holding the fort on both ends.
Brian Flores’ side of the ball will have many new faces for the upcoming season due to a major overhaul being done on both edge and linebacker units. The interior of the defensive line remains steady and one of the best in the league (Vikings had a rush defense ranked 8th in 2023 via FOX Sports) with Harrison and Bullard returning from last season while newly acquired Tillery rounds out that group. There is a good chance that some Vikings fans who did not follow the offseason will be shocked to see longtime defensive stalwarts like Hunter and Barr no longer in purple and gold. On top of that, they also let Jordan Hicks and Wonnum walk away in free agency. However, Kwesi did restock both edge and linebacker positions by bringing in Greenard, Cashman, Ward, and Van Ginkel and also drafting Turner in the first round of the latest draft. Byron Murphy and former Seahawk Griffin will lead the way at cornerback while 13-year vet Harrison Smith shoulder the responsibility of safety. Reichard, who the Vikings drafted in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL draft might be the starting kicker come the regular season.
Kevin O’Connell will be entering his 3rd season as the head coach of the Vikings, trying to rally a team that according to many media pundits is 4th best in their own division.
