Miami Dolphins Roster
The Miami Dolphins is a professional American football team based in Miami, Florida, competing in the NFL in its AFC East division. The upcoming 2024 season will be important to the Mike McDaniels-Tua Tagovailoa era. Since pairing McDaniels with Tagovailoa in 2022, Miami’s offense has skyrocketed to the league's top (No.1 in 2023 and No.6 in 2022 via ESPN). However, in the last two years Dolphins have lost in the wildcard round. It will be interesting to see whether the current Miami Dolphins roster can get them over the hump in 24’ and end the longest postseason win drought in the NFL (Dolphins have not won a postseason game since 2000).
After going back and forth on contract talks, Miami finally made Tagovailoa one of the highest-paid players by signing him to a 4-year extension, which erases all doubts about the QB1 spot. The starting backfield duties will be split between Raheem Mostert and last year’s rookie sensation De’Von Achane (who led all RBs in yards per carry via NFL) while Alec Ingold suiting up as a fullback. The speedy and talented receiver room got even better in the 2024 offseason with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. Dolphins might boast one of the best WR trio in Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Beckham Jr. Miami instantly made their weakest link on offense better by adding Jonnu Smith (who had a career year with Falcons in 2023) to the tight end group which already had Durham Smythe and Julian Hill. The offensive line saw the departure of center Conor Williams but the addition of former Titan Aaron Brewer filled that vacancy. The left side consists of longtime veteran and five-time pro bowler Terron Armstead along with Isiah Wynn on the inside. Robert Hunt’s departure to Carolina saw RG's spot open up. Eichenberg is most likely to fill that position along with Austin Jackson returning to RT with Kendall Lamm as the primary backup tackle.
The Miami Dolphins roster saw most of the changes come on the defensive side of the ball. The most affected position became the defensive line which saw Christian Wilkins (9 sacks in 2023) leave for a big payday in Las Vegas. The new addition of veteran Calais Campbell will form the starting rotation with Zach Sieler. Entering 2024 after season-ending injuries in 2023, Philips and Chubb will be once again lining up on the edge to create havoc on the opposing QBs but this time without Andrew Van Ginkel supporting them (signed with Vikings). However, as of early August, signs point to Philips and Chubb being not ready at the start of the season. Newly acquired Brooks and Long will form the inside linebacker duo tag team after the subtraction of Jerome Baker. The team whose pass defense sat exactly in the middle of the pack (via FOX Sports) saw a major reshuffle take place in the secondary. Kendall Fuller’s signing made Miami’s cornerback room one to be feared with Ramsey patrolling on the other end. Deshon Elliot and Brandon Jones’ exit on the safety might be painful to watch for Phins fans but Jordan Poyer’s signing might make that sting a little bit less. Holland and former Jet Marcus Mye round out the safety group. The Special team is set in stone with Sanders, Bailey and Ferguson.
Mike McDaniels will be entering his 3rd season as the Dolphins head coach with the same OC from the last two years. However, Miami relieved former head coach Vic Fangio from his duties and replaced him with Anthony Weaver as the new defensive coordinator.
