Philadelphia Eagles Roster
The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional American football team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, competing in the NFL in its NFC East division. The historic fall in the second half of the 2023 season along with getting steamrolled by the Bucs in the postseason has surely left some sour taste in the mouth of Eagles fans and the media community alike. However, Philadelphia is still one of the favorites alongside the 49ers, Lions, Cowboys and Packers to represent the NFC. Nick Sirianni and the boys would be eager to get back to their 2022 form after getting rid of OC Brian Johnson and hiring former Cowboys OC Kellen Moore as his replacement.
Jalen Hurts, who had 4 game-winning drives in 2023, would like to get back to his MVP-caliber form from the 2022 season. Philly made one of the biggest splashes in free agency when they signed 2024 FA class’ prized possession Saquon Barkley to their running back room which saw the departure of D’Andre Swift. The trio pass catchers of Brown, Smith and Goedert will be once again seeing the bulk of balls coming their way. After the latest addition of Dotson, the wide receiver room looks much better than it was before 22nd August. However, the tight-end group still looks a bit shaky behind Goedert. Eagles got the biggest blow in the offseason when Jason Kelce, a longtime staple at center and 7-time pro bowler decided to hang up his boots. While the offensive line still consists of star power in Lane Johnson, Mailata and Dickerson, it would all come down to how well Cam Jurgens performs at the center.
Vic Fangio will be given the responsibility to steady the ship on the other side of the ball after team defense fell to 26th in 2023 from 8th in 2022 (via FOX Sports). As if elder Kelce’s retirement heartbreak was not enough, Philly fans saw another longtime core player in Fletcher Cox hang up his boots too. Eagles' front office is betting on former Georgia stalwarts Carter and Davis to fill the shoes of Cox. After trading 2023 Eagles sack leader Reddick (11 sacks) to the Jets, newly signed Bryce Huff will have to slot in as the premier pass rusher on the team accompanied by Sweat on the other end. Two new members in Devin White and Baun alongside Dean round out the linebacker group. Philadelphia, who ranked second last in passing defense in 2023 (via FOX Sports) addressed the issue by drafting two DBs with their top two picks in the 2024 draft in Mitchell and DeJean. Gardner-Johnson’s return to Philly will provide stability to a safety group which saw last year’s trade deadline acquisition Byard leave for Chicago.
