Detroit Lions Roster
Souce:- Getty Image
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan, competing in the NFL in its NFC North division. Did the Lions win their first playoff game in more than 3 decades? Tick. Did Detroit reach the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991? Tick. Did the Lions finally form a competent front office and coaching staff in a long time? Tick. Are Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions here to stay for a long time? Tick. Are the Lions true Super Bowl contenders or was the 2023 NFC Championship run a fluke? That’s the question whose answer only the 2024 season can give.
Jared Goff, who was a castaway signal caller once upon a time, has now become one of the primary faces of the historic franchise and was given a lucrative 4-year contract extension in the summer. The effective backfield duo of Montgomery and Gibbs will be once again seen spearheading the ground attack to complement the passing game. However, losing Reynolds in free agency has put more pressure on Williams, LaPorta and Raymond to elevate their games even further while St. Brown has already become one of the best pass catchers in the league (1,515 yards in 2023). One of the strongest units on the Detroit Lions roster consisting of Decker, Sewell, Glasgow and Ragnow will be once again gearing up to keep Goff upright.
Brad Holmes has made various moves so that the Lions’ defense doesn't finish 19th in the league like last season (via FOX Sports). He brought in DJ Reader to keep the interior as strong as 2023 (finished the season 2nd in rushing defense), while newly acquired Davenport will line up on the other end of Aidan Hutchinson to create havoc in the opposition’s backfield. Campbell and Anzalone will be once guarding the middle of the field while the secondary which was one of the major issues on the team (27th-ranked passing defense in 2023), saw a complete reshuffle take place. Two new faces in Davis and rookie Arnold will be given the responsibility to elevate the CB position while Joseph and Branch will both be returning as the starting safeties.
