Seattle Seahawks Roster
After going four seasons without a playoff win, the Seahawks decided that it was time for a new voice in the locker room. Seattle relieved their SB-winning head coach Pete Carroll from his coaching duties but kept him in the building as a team’s advisor while giving the team keys to former Michigan Wolverines and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Both of those teams had finished at the top in the defensive department under his tutelage. Seahawks fans who saw their young defensive wizard HC lock down the high-flying Niners offense last season, hope that he could do the same to them twice a year as Seattle has not been able to get the better of their divisional foe since 2021.
Geno Smith is the unquestioned starter QB with newly acquired Sam Howell from Washington backing him up. To complement Smith’s passing prowess will be the elite receiving trio of Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba. Kenneth Walker will be spearheading the ground attack while Zack and Kenny make sure that Walker gets timely rest in between. Noah Fant will be the lone returner on the tight end group which saw the departure of Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson. The tackle spots will be covered by Cross and Lucas. Seattle bolstered their interior by adding veteran Tomlinson and Connor Williams (2nd best center in 2023 via PFF) in the offseason.
Macdonald’s side of the ball saw quite a reshuffle as the Seahawks were second-last in pass rush and third-last in overall defense (via FOX Sports) in 2023. They instantly made their defensive line one of the strongest units by adding Byron Murphy (1st round of the 2024 draft) and Hankins (FA) as early down run stuffers to keep Williams and Reed fresh on 3rd downs. Edge group will be once again led by the team sack leader from 2023 Boye Mafe (9 sacks) and Nwosu, who is returning from a pectoral injury he suffered in the midseason last year. Other new pieces acquired in the offseason, Jerome Baker and Dodson, will serve as the starting linebacker duo while Witherspoon and Woolen provide star power to the cornerback group which also consists of Jackson and Brown. The defensive back group saw longtime veteran Quandre Diggs and 3-time pro bowler Adams leave which leaves Love and Jenkins as the top safety duo on the team. Special teams will once again see familiar faces in Myers, Dickson and Stoll.
As seen most often, with a new head coach comes a whole new coaching staff. The offensive play-calling duty will be handled by Ryan Grubb, who orchestrated one of the most potent offenses in the college last year with the Washington Huskies. Aden Durde will take on the defensive coordinator role while Jim Harbaugh’s son, Jay will oversee the special teams. Longtime coach in the league and former Vikings HC Leslie Frazier will aid Macdonald as the assistant head coach.
