Los Angeles Chargers Roster
The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in Greater Los Angeles, California, competing in the NFL in its AFC West division. The team which has long been known for having a Super Bowl-worthy roster but being unable to translate it on the field has instilled new energy and buzz among fans with the arrival of Jim Harbaugh. The idea of a team led by Justin Herbert paired with a perennial winner like younger Harbaugh alone warrants the Chargers as a must-see team in 2024.
The team, since 2020 has gone as far as their QB Justin Herbert takes them and it’s not changing anytime soon. However, the running back room saw a major reshuffle in the form of the departure of longtime Charger Austin Ekeler. Despite the loss of Ekeler, the Chargers improved by signing two major pieces in Gus Edwards and J K Dobbins from the Ravens. The Chargers’ biggest question mark going into the season is their receiving core, which lost Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Jalen Guyton in a single offseason. The current group consists of only one player who has eclipsed 1k receiving yards in a single season (DJ Chark). However, signing powerful blockers like Hurst and Dissly at tight end positions makes Herbert’s life easier. Harbaugh’s love for big men up front showed once again when he picked Joe Alt with the 5th pick at the 2024 NFL Draft. With Slater and Alt on both ends, while Bozeman serves at center, the offensive line is one of the stronger units on the team.
A team whose edge group consists of names like Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Bud Dupree, would not likely repeat last season's debacle (28th in total defense via FOX Sports). The rushing defense which ranked 17th in 2023 (via FOX Sports) will once again see Morgan Fox stuffing up the middle along with his new partner Poona Ford. Kenneth Murray’s departure is surely gonna sting as it has left the linebacker group a bit vulnerable. Chargers would be surely hoping that newly acquired Fulton is the answer opposite to Asante on the outside while Derwin James and Alohi Gilman serve as the last line of the defense on secondary. The special teams unit is set in stone with Dicker, Scott and Harris.
After cleaning house in the offseason, the Chargers snagged the biggest fish available in the coaching market in the form of Jim Harbaugh, coach of the 2023 FBS National champion Michigan Wolverines. He brought along Jesse Minter from Michigan as the team’s DC and made former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman as the team’s OC.
