Buffalo Bills Roster
The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in Buffalo, New York, competing in the NFL in its AFC East division. The four-time reigning AFC East champions have one of the elite QBs anchoring their offense but the team just can’t seem to crack a puzzle named Mahomes in the playoffs as they are 0-3 against him in their last 4 postseason appearances. As if postseason woes were not enough, the Bills suddenly find themselves with a lack of firepower on offense due to the departure of Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis. And it does not help that their divisional rivals only got better in the offseason. The Dolphins’ trajectory going into year 3 under Mike McDaniels is only going to go upwards while Jets stifling defense will get much-needed help from their offense which will have a healthy Aaron Rodgers under center.
Josh Allen will be leading a new pack of wide receivers this season that has only one old face from the previous year in Khalil Shakir. New wideouts include Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, rookie second-rounder Keon Coleman and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The return of both Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox will give comfort to Allen in the passing game. James Cook’s breakout year in 2023 has lessened the burden somewhat on No.17 to also produce on the ground (even though he still rushed for more than 500 yards last year). The release of Mitch Morse has moved Connor McGovern to the center role while the tackle tandem of Spencer Brown and Dion Dawkins will have hands full protecting Allen on the outside.
No team has lost more star power on one side of the ball as the Bills have on the defensive side of the ball. The team which lost last year’s team leader in sacks, Leonard Floyd, will be expecting more from their young players in Greg Rousseau, AJ Epensa and Ed Oliver. Buffalo would have fingers crossed when it comes to 8-time pro bowler Von Miller. They hope last year’s Miller production was a fluke as he was nursing his way back from an injury and after going into the 2024 season fully healthy, he can get back to his former self. As much as Floyd’s departure will hurt the d-line, no group is more affected than the secondary which lost not one but two perennial pro bowlers in safety duo Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.
When you coach in a conference where the combo of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes reside, no matter how good of a coaching job one has done, he will always be measured by his playoff success. The same has happened with Mike McDermott going into year 8, whose seat is starting to become warm as the Bills lost to the Chiefs third time in the postseason last year, while also having only one AFC championship appearance in the Josh Allen era.
