Carolina Panthers Roster

Source: Getty Images

The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, competing in the NFL in its NFC South division. Carolina has not won a playoff round since their last Super Bowl appearance way back in the 2015 season. In their last 8 seasons, they have made it to the postseason only once. It seemed that everything would eventually get back on track for Carolina after drafting Bryce Young with their No.1 overall pick last spring, but nothing went as planned and an abysmal 1-10 start to the season saw Panthers fire their HC mid-season. The organization gave HC duties to Dave Canales, who has resurrected both Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield’s careers. The team hopes he can do the same with their second-year signal caller, whose growth got stunted due to poor play calling and the surrounding cast in 2023.

Bryce will have fourth-year RB and one of the few bright spots from last season in Hubbard carrying the heavy workload in the backfield. The pass-catching options have changed a bit due to the departure of DJ Chark and Hayden Hurst but newly acquired Johnson, Thielen, Mingo and rookie Legette give Young and Canales a solid core to work with. The offensive line which gave up 65 sacks last year (via Statmuse) was rebuilt in the interior with the team signing two guards in Lewis and Hunt to humongous contracts, while Corbett, Ekwonu and Moton return from last season to form the rest 60% of the line.

On the defensive side of the Carolina Panthers roster is where a major reshuffle has happened. The team parted ways with one of the best players in the league in Brian Burns and signed Clowney to start on the opposite end of Derrick brown. Tuttle and newly signed A’Shawn Robinson will be tasked to cog up the running lane in the middle. Wonnum, starting the season on PUP, has surely made the linebacker position one of the thinnest on the team. The secondary unit which saw Jackson, Chinn and Bell leave in the offseason, will see Horn and Dane Jackson (when he comes back from injury) start on the outside, while Woods and Fuller serve as the last line of defense.

The rookie head coach in Dave Canales will have to show some promise if he doesn’t want to lose his job as it is no secret that the Panthers owner is one of the most impatient owners in the whole league as evidenced by last year’s firing of Frank Reich. Canales staff consists of Brad Idzik and Ejiro Evero as the team’s OC and DC respectively.
