The Carolina Panthers, two-time Super Bowl runner-up, have not had a winning season since the prime Cam Newton used to line up under center. After Newton’s departure, Carolina became a revolving door at the quarterback position for a few years. However, two years ago, the Panthers addressed the dire need under center by selecting Bryce Young first overall. After a disastrous first year, the Panthers brought in Dave Canales to pair him up with the former Alabama product as the franchise’s new head coach in 2024.

While the early returns of Canales’ first year in Charlotte were not good (as Bryce Young was benched), it did get better as the year went on. After returning as a starter, Young managed to put together an impressive statline stretch down the road. Since week 10, Young accumulated 17 total touchdowns to just 3 interceptions by the end of the 2024 season. Panthers fans would be hoping that the last 8-week stretch Bryce had was an indication of both him and Dave Canales gelling and not some fluke.

Second-year general manager Dan Morgan started building through the trenches going into last season. After spending resources on the offensive line in 2024, he targeted the defensive line during the 2025 offseason. Panthers signed Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III in free agency to improve the team’s run defense, which ranked dead last in 2024 (via FOX Sports). After investing in the interior, Morgan took edge rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen in the 2025 draft to complete the defensive line overhaul.

After extending Jaycee Horn, the Panthers snagged Tre’Von Moehrig, one of the best safeties available in the free agent market. Carolina also gave Bryce Young one more weapon to work with by taking 6’4 wideout Tetairoa McMillan with the 8th overall pick.
