The two-time Super Bowl champions, the Indianapolis Colts, have fallen off the football map since the abrupt retirement of Andrew Luck. After going the veteran way at the quarterback (signing Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, etc.), the Colts decided to rip the band-aid two years ago by picking Anthony Richardson fourth overall in the 2023 NFL draft. Indy then paired him with new head coach Shane Steichen. However, two years down the road, injuries and inconsistencies have derailed the third-year signal caller’s trajectory. To make matters worse for the young QB, the general manager, Chris Ballard, brought in former 6th overall pick Daniel Jones on a 1-year prove-it deal.

The Colts have not made it into the postseason in the past 4 years (including two years under present head coach Steichen). Steichen might be on a hot seat if the Colts fail to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season.

What is the Indianapolis Colts' depth chart for 2025-26?

The one position that has plagued the franchise for the past few years has been a lack of high-end quality play at tight end. Ballard addressed that issue by selecting tight end Tyler Warren in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. The major departures that Indy faced in free agency were on the interior offensive line, as both center Ryan Kelly and guard Will Fries signed with the Minnesota Vikings. However, Indianapolis is expecting their two in-house replacements in Matt Gonclaves and Tanor Bortolini, to fill those shoes.

While the Colts did not go heavy on the offensive side of the ball during free agency, the same was not the case when it came to defense. Indy gave out expensive contracts to cornerback Charvarius Ward and safety Camryn Bynum to stabilize their secondary.
