Initial days

In March 2022, after departing WWE, Stephon Strickland, now known as Swerve Strickland, debuted in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) at the Revolution event. He quickly established himself with a victory over Tony Nese on Rampage. An alliance formed soon after, with Strickland joining forces with Keith Lee to battle Team Taz (Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks). This duo dubbed themselves "Swerve In Our Glory" and went on to achieve tag team success. Swerve In Our Glory's teamwork culminated in a significant win on July 13th, 2022, during AEW's Fyter Fest. They defeated The Young Bucks and Team Taz in a hard-fought Triple or Nothing match, capturing the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Their reign, however, wasn't destined to last. The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) dethroned them at the Grand Slam episode of Dynamite.

Swerve's trajectory in AEW shifted in early 2023. Following a falling out with Lee, Strickland embarked on a singles career. He aligned himself with the Mogul Embassy, a growing faction within AEW, and has since established himself as their leader. Strickland's career has been on the rise since late 2023 after a high-profile feud against the former AEW World Champion Hangman 'Adam' Page. He defeated Page at AEW WrestleDream in a singles match and then in Page's own Texas Death match at AEW Full Gear 2023. Around the same time, he also picked up singles victories against the likes of former AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin, former World Tag Team Champion Penta, El Hijo Del Vikingo, and had a highly acclaimed match against The American Dragon Bryan Danielson.

In December 2023, he took part in the AEW Continental Championship Tournament, where he was a part of the Gold League. There, he scored a victory against Jay White, Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal, and Rush. In a triple threat match against White and Jon Moxley, he was eliminated from the tournament after Moxley pinned White. Since then, he has shifted his focus to the AEW World Champion Samoa Joe. At Revolution 2024, he challenged Joe in a triple threat match also involving Hangman Page, which Joe won after pinning Page.

World Championship

Swerve Strickland again earned a shot at the AEW World Championship by winning a match against Konosuke Takeshita on Dynamite. He then defeated Samoa Joe at the Dynasty pay-per-view to become the champion. This victory made Strickland the first African American AEW World Champion. To celebrate this achievement, Prince Nana dressed Strickland in special robes before the championship match. Strickland has successfully defended his title once against Claudio Castagnoli and is now set to face Christian Cage at the upcoming Double or Nothing event.

Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona ambushed Swerve Strickland, resulting in the dissolution of the Mogul Embassy. He successfully retained the AEW World Championship against Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door after defending it against Christian Cage at a major event later that year. However, Bryan Danielson defeated him by submission at All In, ending his reign. When Page set fire to Strickland's childhood home, their rivalry got worse. This forced AEW to turn their steel cage match at All Out into an unofficial "lights out" match, which Page won, ending their long-running rivalry.

Strickland went back to WrestleDream after a brief break, where he faced Bobby Lashley at Full Gear but lost to the newly formed Hurt Syndicate. He then feuded with Ricochet, losing to him on Dynamite, where Ricochet stole Strickland’s robe, which he wore as a tribute to Jimmy Rave. Strickland defeated Ricochet at Revolution, reclaiming the robe and securing a spot in the AEW World Championship. Following Moxley's title defense that very same night, he attacked Jon Moxley, laying the groundwork for his subsequent significant rivalry.
