About Seattle Seahawks

Under the leadership of head coach Jack Patera, the Seattle Seahawks made their NFL debut in 1976. Two years later, in 1978, the Seahawks had their first successful season, and Patera was voted NFL Coach of the Year in 1979. The inaugural season of the Seattle Seahawks in 1976 represented the completion of a search for a National Football League franchise that began in the Pacific Northwest city in 1957. At that time, building a dome stadium to guarantee the city a major league sports franchise was initially brought up. Seattle received the NFL's 28th franchise on June 4, 1974, to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome.

The Seahawks compete in the NFC West division of the NFL. Till 2001 the Seattle Seahawks used to play in the AFC West Division and remain the only team to have played in both the AFC and NFC Championship games. The team had very successful seasons in the initial stages but failed to make it to the postseason much, during the 1990s. However, since 2003, the Seattle Seahawks have rarely missed a spot in the playoffs with numerous consecutive appearances. As of October 2024, the Seattle Seahawks franchise is valued at around $5.45 billion (via Forbes).

Seattle Seahawks Next Game

The Seahawks entered the 2024 NFL season with a new head coach Mike Macdonald after relieving their SB-winning head coach Pete Carroll from head coaching duties in the offseason. The team's 2024 NFL season started with a bang as they managed to go 3-0 in their first three games. They won their season opener against the Denver Broncos, 26-20, on September 8 at Lumen Field. They needed overtime to clinch a 23-20 victory against the New England Patriots in week 2. In week 3, Seattle crushed the Miami Dolphins 24-3 en route to a 3-0 start. However, their next three games saw them get back to 0.500 after losing in all three of them. Their first loss of the season came against the Detroit Lions, followed by a 20-29 defeat to the New York Giants. A divisional loss against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night of week 6 has them on a 3-game losing streak. Next, they’ll play the Falcons in Atlanta on October 20, followed by games against Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. After getting BYE in week 10, the Seahawks will have three divisional games in the next 4 weeks with two of them coming against the Arizona Cardinals. They finish the year by facing three NFC North foes in three consecutive weeks, before concluding the 2024-25 season by going up against Los Angeles Rams on January 5, 2025.

Seattle Seahawks Roster 2024-25

Geno Smith is the unquestioned starter QB with newly acquired Sam Howell from Washington backing him up. The elite receiving trio of D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will once again shoulder the responsibility of Seattle's air attack with Kenneth Walker wreaking havoc on the ground. Noah Fant will be the lone returner on the tight end group which saw the departure of Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson. While Cross and Lucas cover the tackle spot, Seattle's interior will be bolstered by newcomers veteran Tomlinson and Connor Williams. Seattle instantly made their defensive line one of the strongest units by adding Byron Murphy (1st round of the 2024 draft) to the group which consists of 2023 team sack leader Boye Mafe (9 sacks). Other new pieces acquired in the offseason, Jerome Baker and Dodson, will serve as the starting linebacker duo while Witherspoon and Woolen provide star power to the cornerback group. The defensive back group saw longtime veteran Quandre Diggs and 3-time pro bowler Jamal Adams leave.

FAQs

The number 12 in Seattle is an ode to the Seattle Seahawks’ loyal fans. In football there are 11 men allowed on the field at one time. In December 1984, the fledgling Seattle NFL franchise (at the time just eight years old) retired the number 12 to honor the fans, the symbolic 12th man on the field. The number refers to “the 12th Man,” the nickname for the Seattle Seahawks’ devoted, tenacious and record-breakingly loud fans. The fans are considered as part of the team and an important part that too, urging them to persuade victory.

The current Seattle Seahawks home stadium is the Lumen Field. The Lumen field is also the home field for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL), the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL, and the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer (MLS). The field gets incredibly loud at times owing to the fans, which makes it one of the greatest home advantage for the Seahawks to play there.
