How Old Was Iga Swiatek When She Won the French Open?

Iga Swiatek is a Polish professional tennis player, and the current World No. 2 in women's singles. A household name in the WTA since 2019, she has won the French Open four times (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024), as well as the US Open once (2022), making her a five-time major singles champion. She is the first Polish player to win a major title in singles.

Iga Swiatek was just 19-years-old, when she won her first French Open title in 2020.

Świątek became the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title, and the lowest-ranked French Open champion in WTA rankings history when he upset World No. 6 Sofia Kenin in the final. In addition, she became the youngest winner of the tournament's singles division since Monica Seles in 1992 and Rafael Nadal in 2005.

Presently at the helm of the WTA, Iga Świątek was ranked 54th in the world when the 2020 French Open was rescheduled for September. Yet, she captured her first WTA title in the singles category. In the first round of the tournament, she triumphed over world No. 19 and 2019 runner-up, Markéta Vondroušová. She then defeated World No. 2 and top seed Simona Halep in the Round-4. Halep was riding a 17-match winning streak and was the clear favorite to win the title.

Świątek became World No. 17 after winning the title. She participated in the doubles tournament as well, forming her first-ever partnership with Nicole Melichar. In addition to making it to the semifinals, the duo did not lose a set until the last-four stage, before falling short.

What Are Iga Swiatek’s Best Grand Slam Performances?

Świątek's best Grand Slam performances include the 2020 French Open, where she beat Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-4, 6-1, the 2022 French Open, with a win over Coco Gauff (6-1, 6-3). She also won the tournament two more times, defeating Karolina Muchova and Jasmine Paolini respectively. Additionally, she displayed her innate skill on hard courts by clinching the 2022 US Open title, defeating Ons Jabeur (6-2, 7-6).

In 2022, Iga Świątek achieved a historic feat by becoming the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 to win both the US Open and the French Open in the same season.
