Ben Shelton turned pro in August 2022. He made this news official through a social media post. He announced that he would not continue with college and would become a professional player. He further added that he would be represented by Alessandro Sant Albano. Albano is part of the management team of Roger Federer.

He also thanked the University of Florida for helping him in his development. He said that he would cherish the memories with the university team, and it was a great experience playing for the team. He decided to turn professional after reaching the third round of the 2022 Western and Southern Open.
