About NXT Heatwave 2024
NXT Heatwave (2024) is the third annual professional wrestling live event produced by WWE for its NXT brand. It was the tenth iteration of the Heatwave event overall, which originated as an internet pay-per-view (iPPV) for ECW in 1997 and later transitioned to a traditional pay-per-view (PPV) before WWE acquired ECW's assets in 2003.
The 2024 NXT Heatwave took place on July 7, 2024, at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This marks the first Heatwave PPV on NXT as the previous two NXT Heatwave events were held as television specials.

NXT Heatwave 2024 Matches
Trick Williams (c) vs Je'Von Evans vs Ethan Page vs Shawn Spears
The NXT Championship scene was thrown into chaos following Trick Williams' successful title defense against Ethan Page at Battleground. Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, announced a 25-man battle royal to determine Williams' challenger at Heatwave. Je'Von Evans emerged victorious, but Page claimed he was never officially eliminated after being attacked by Oro Mensah. To settle the dispute, Evans and Page faced off, with Page ultimately winning. However, the situation took another turn when Shawn Spears, who had attacked Evans after the match, defeated Williams in a non-title bout. With three contenders vying for the championship, NXT General Manager Ava made the decision to have Williams defend his title against Evans, Page, and Spears in a fatal four-way match at Heatwave. At the event, Ethan Page became the new NXT Tag Team Champions.
Nathan Frazer and Axiom (c) vs Chase University
It was announced that Nathan Frazer and Axiom would defend their titles at Heatwave against the winners of a Tag Team Turmoil match. The following week, Chase University, of Andre Chase and Duke Hudson, emerged victorious from the chaotic match, earning their shot at the championship.
Oba Femi (c) vs Wes Lee
Oba Femi successfully defended his NXT North American title at Battleground in a triple-threat match that included Wes Lee. Following the victory, Lee challenged Femi for a one-on-one title match. Femi accepted, but with a stipulation: if Lee lost, he would be permanently barred from challenging Femi for the title as long as he remained champion.
Kelani Jordan (c) vs. Sol Ruca
Kelani Jordan won the NXT Women's North American title at Battleground in a ladder match, becoming the first champion. On the following episode, Jordan praised Sol Ruca and promised her a title shot. However, Arianna Grace misinterpreted the gesture, believing the offer was for her. To determine the challenger, a match between Grace and Ruca was scheduled for the following week, with the winner facing Jordan at Heatwave. Ruca emerged victorious and is set to challenge Jordan at NXT Heatwave 2024.
Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Lola Vice
Roxanne Perez successfully defended her title at Battleground, but the following week, several women, including Lola Vice, made their case for a title shot. Vice, citing her victory over Shayna Baszler at Battleground, felt she deserved a chance. Perez and Vice later teamed up in a tag match, which they won, but Perez turned on Vice after the match. This led to Vice stealing the title from Perez and demanding a title match at Heatwave, which was granted by NXT General Manager Ava.

NXT Heatwave History
The heat of summer brings not just scorching temperatures, but also a wrestling event steeped in history - NXT Heatwave. However, its story starts outside of WWE. Heatwave's origin dates back to 1997, when it debuted as an internet pay-per-view (iPPV) for the hardcore wrestling promotion ECW. Known for its brutal matches and edgy storylines, Heatwave became a staple for ECW, featuring iconic clashes like Taz vs. Sabu.
After ECW folded in 2001, WWE acquired its assets in 2003 and eventually brought Heatwave back, this time as a traditional pay-per-view in 2006. However, it only lasted a few years before being retired. Fast forward to 2022, and NXT, WWE's developmental brand, took the torch. Revamped as a television special episode, NXT Heatwave offered a platform for rising stars to shine on a bigger stage. The 2023 edition continued the tradition, delivering championship matches and intense rivalries. Now, in 2024, NXT Heatwave prepares to write its next chapter in the summer spotlight, this time back as a Pay-Per-View event.
