Women's World Championship - Liv Morgan (c) vs Iyo Sky
At Survivor Series: WarGames, Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, Iyo Sky, and Bayley defeated Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, and Candice LeRae. Sky from the winning team then challenged the Women's World Champion Liv Morgan for a title shot, who was on the losing side at WarGames. A match between the two was then made official.
World Heavyweight Championship - Gunther (c) vs Finn Balor vs Damian Priest
At SummerSlam 2024, Gunther defeated Damian Priest to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. In the match, Finn Balor betrayed Priest and helped Gunther win the match. A couple of months later, Gunther defended the gold against Priest at Survivor Series: WarGames. Balor again interfered in the match to attack Priest, and Gunther retained.
The following night on RAW, Balor asked Gunther for a title match for his favors. The champion, however, got furios because he was not happy with Balor interfering in his matches. He instead defended the title against Dominik Mysterio later that night. While he retained, Gunther was brutally attacked by Balor, and a match between the two stars was then made official for Saturday's Night Main Event. Damian Priest was then added to make this a triple threat competition. However, Gunther retained the gold.
WWE Championship - Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, is set to clash with Kevin Owens as Saturday Night’s Main Event makes its return to NBC. Former allies against The Bloodline, Owens turned on Rhodes after Rhodes teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood. Following their victory, Owens ambushed Rhodes in a brutal parking lot attack.
Adding to his rampage, Owens sidelined Randy Orton with an illegal piledriver. Blaming Rhodes for his actions, Owens accused the champion of losing his way due to the Undisputed WWE Title. Determined to settle the score, Rhodes challenged Owens to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. At the event, Rhodes used a steel chair to beat Owens. After the match, however, KO brutally attacked The American Nightmare and the champion was carried on a stretcher.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event History
Origins and Popularity (1985-1992)
Saturday Night's Main Event debuted on May 11, 1985, airing on NBC in the late-night slot traditionally filled by Saturday Night Live. The show was created by Vince McMahon and produced by Dick Ebersol, capitalizing on the success of earlier WWF specials on MTV. The program featured high-stakes matches between top stars, including Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, and Randy Savage, drawing massive audiences. A March 1987 episode featuring Hogan and André drew an unprecedented 11.6 rating, marking it as one of the highest-rated shows in American television history.
The show aired infrequently but consistently featured high-profile matchups that were seldom seen on regular television. Throughout its original run, SNME aired a total of 31 episodes, with its last airing in October 1992. The show's popularity waned in the early '90s, leading to its cancellation by NBC. Towards its end, the show also briefly aired on Fox Sports.
Revival in WWE (2006-2008)
Saturday Night’s Main Event saw a brief revival from 2006 to 2008, returning with several specials that continued to highlight big-name wrestlers and championship bouts. The show featured five editions this time with names like John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Kane, Edge, and other big superstars entering the squared circle on Saturday Night.
Current Revival (2024)
In 2024, WWE announced another revival of Saturday Night Main Event. The show was announced to take place from Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This is the same venue where the first-ever Saturday Night Main Event took place in 1985. It is a simulcast and is set to air on both Peacock TV and NBC.
