History of the WWE Women’s United States Championship
Women’s Wrestling in WWE
Fans of WWE have been demanding a mid-card title for the female roster for years. The first-ever WWE Women’s title was introduced in 1956, and since then most of the women’s wrestling has revolved around these world titles. Over the years, the female division of the WWE has witnessed notable growth. The era of Chyna, Lita, and Trish Stratus had fans waiting for women’s wrestling. Since the 2010s, there has been an exponential growth in female wrestling.
Firstly, wrestlers like The Bella Twins and AJ Lee had great feuds in their time and since then the roster has been filled with many talented wrestlers like Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Ronda Rousey, Asuka, and more. WWE also introduced the Tag Team Championships in 2018 to accommodate the ever-growing talent in the division. However, a demand for a mid-card belt in the division remained unanswered.
New Titles in 2024
2024 saw a huge growth in the number of titles for the women’s division. Firstly, WWE introduced the NXT Women’s North American Championship, which became the company’s first mid-card title for its female wrestlers. The title was made exclusive for the NXT roster. Thereafter, the company also introduced the WWE Speed Women’s Championship for its Speed programming, and then also introduced the WWE Women’s Crown Jewel Championship to crown the best of the best. The Company closed the year on a high note by finally introducing a secondary singles title for the main roster.
Introduction of the WWE Women’s United States Championship
On the November 8, 2024, episode of SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis announced to the fans that a new title was being introduced in a pre-recorded segment. He introduced the WWE Women’s US title, the counterpart to the Men’s US Championship. He announced that this championship would not be handed out easily; rather, it would be "earned" by those who deserve it.
WWE Women’s US Championship Design
The design of the Women's United States Championship mirrors its male counterpart, featuring similar aesthetics but tailored for female competitors. The title will have a white strap, distinguishing it from the men's version while maintaining the iconic look associated with the United States Championship. The design choice is consistent with the pattern WWE followed for the former RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships.
