Becky Lynch: A Brief Biography
Becky Lynch is one of the biggest, if not the biggest superstar, in not just WWE but the entire wrestling industry. The Irish-American female professional wrestler was Born Rebecca Quin. The multi-time Women's Champion was one of the most underrated stars of the women's division, with the perception about her being that she is someone with exceptional in-ring skills and potential but has not been able to break the glass ceiling due to her ordinary mic skills. However, things turned around in 2018, when Lynch went heel and unleashed her 'The Man' persona, which has made her reach unachievable heights in the business.
In March 2024, Lynch announced that she had acquired an American citizenship.

Becky Lynch Early Life
Becky Lynch was born in Limerick, Ireland on January 30, 1987. She grew up in an athletic family, with her mother, father, and brother all participating in various sports. Her father was Ken Quin, and her mother is Anne Quin. The Irish Lass Kicker developed an interest in sports as a result of growing up in a family with a strong sporting background. She was one year old when her parents separated.
With her brother Richy, who eventually competed in professional wrestling as Gonzo de Mondo, Becky Lynch began following wrestling at an early age. The Man attended primary school at St. Laurence O'Toole's in Dublin before going on to college at Dublin College of Technology. She studied acting in college and appeared in numerous plays before deciding to pursue a career in professional wrestling.
Becky Lynch Professional Wrestling Career
Early Career
At the age of 15, Becky Lynch started training at the wrestling school managed by Fergal Devitt (currently a WWE Superstar famously known as Finn Balor) and Paul Tracey, where she started her professional wrestling career. With the ring name Rebecca Knox, the former RAW Women’s Champion made her professional wrestling career debut in 2005.
Becky Lynch quickly created a reputation for herself in the independent wrestling community in Ireland and the United Kingdom by working for various promotions like the International Wrestling Zone, One Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling EVE, and SHIMMER Women Athletes. Lynch immediately established herself as one of the most skilled female wrestlers in the business, getting the nickname "The Irish Lass Kicker" for her brand of powerful strikes. The Man also wrestled in Japan for promotions like Ice Ribbon and STARDOM.
Becky shattered her clavicle and sustained a severe concussion in a tournament in Germany in 2006, causing a serious injury. The Irish Lass Kicker had to take several years off from wrestling to heal, during which time she resumed acting and started her flight attendant training.
WWE Career
NXT (2013-2015)
Becky eventually returned to wrestling, signing with WWE's developmental territory NXT in 2013. Making her televised NXT debut in June 2014 as Becky Lynch, The Man immediately established herself as a top star in the women's division with her natural charisma and in-ring skills winning her a legion of followers. She forged an alliance with Sasha Banks, and the duo was known as "Team BAE" (Best at Everything). Lynch competed in the inaugural NXT Women's Championship tournament, where she fought Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and Bayley. These encounters established the Four Horsewomen's legend and ushered in a new era of women's wrestling in WWE.
While the Irish Lass Kicker was not able to win the NXT Women's Championship (her being the only WWE Horsewomen to have not won the title), Becky Lynch was a crucial part of the NXT Women's division at the time. Her inherent charm and contagious attitude drew her to fans, and her matches with Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks are still remembered.
Women's Revolution (2015–2016)
Becky Lynch was then promoted to the main roster in 2015, alongside Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks, as part of WWE's "Women's Revolution." The three women created history by competing in the first-ever women's match at a WWE pay-per-view event. While The Irish Lass Kicker did reach the top of the Women's division by winning the SmackDown Women's Championship in 2016, Becky still struggled to find her footing on the main roster. Her previous role of being a supporting character in the Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks feud did not help in making Lynch come across as a credible champion, with her losing the championship pretty early into her first reign. But, she quickly hit her stride and established herself as a force to be reckoned with.
SmackDown Women's Champion (2016–2018)
Becky Lynch had a breakout year in 2018, becoming one of WWE's most popular superstars. She won the SmackDown Women's Title at WWE's Hell in a Cell event, and her popularity skyrocketed after she was busted open by Nia Jax during Team SmackDown's invasion of RAW in the build-up to Survivor Series 2018. Becky branded herself "The Man" in the promo and chastised Charlotte for being given everything due to her famous last name.
The Man (2018–2019)
Becky's "The Man" attitude became her hallmark, and she went on to have an unforgettable feud with Ronda Rousey, culminating in a triple threat match alongside Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35. The former Irish Lass Kicker made history at WrestleMania 35 by winning both the Raw and SmackDown Women's Championships, becoming the first woman to hold both belts at the same time. She also made history as the first woman to compete in the main event of WrestleMania (WWE's flagship Premium Live Event) when she battled Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35.
Raw Women's Champion (2019–2020)
While many would have predicted this to be the peak of Becky Lynch’s career, it wasn’t the case. Although she did lose the SmackDown Women’s Championship pretty early, Becky Lynch had an extremely lengthy and successful run with the RAW Women’s Championship. The former Irish Lass Kicker’s record-breaking RAW Women’s Championship reign came to an end on May 11, 2020 edition of Monday Night RAW, when Becky Lynch announced her pregnancy, leading to Asuka, who had won the Money in the Bank ladder match the previous night, being crowned the champion.
Lynch made her return to WWE on August 21, 2021, after a 15-month absence, defeating Bianca Belair in less than half a minute to capture the SmackDown Women's Title for the fourth time. The fans were critical of WWE's decision to have Lynch squash Belair. However, this was used by Vince McMahon and the team to their advantage, as the idea had been to bring Lynch back as a heel. Lynch successfully defended her championship at the following Premium Live Event, Extreme Rules, amidst interference from a returning Sasha Banks.
Big Time Becks (2021–2023)
This three-way rivalry between Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bianca Belair came to a head at WWE's Crown Jewel event in October, which saw a triple-threat match between the three ladies for the SmackDown Women's Championship. The Man was able to successfully defend her championship here as well. Becky Lynch, who was the then-SmackDown Women's Champion, was drafted to the Raw brand in the 2021 edition of WWE's Draft. The Man and Raw Women's Champion Charlotte Flair exchanged titles on the October 22 edition of SmackDown, making Lynch the new Raw Women's Champion. By this point, Becky Lynch had abandoned the 'The Man' gimmick in favor of 'Big Time Becks,' a villainous gimmick that established Lynch's dominance over the entire women's division.
Big Time Becks dominated as RAW Women's Champion, defeating superstars like Liv Morgan and Lita before losing the title to Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 38, bringing their feud full circle. Big Time Becks failed her effort to reclaim the Raw Women's Championship from Belair during the 2022 SummerSlam event, the very next edition of the Premium Live Event where Becky Lynch had squashed Belair to win the SmackDown Women's Championship.
But, the Irish Lass Kicker embraced Belair post-match, indicating a shift to being a face. The post-match events saw Belair being confronted by a returning Bayley and her new companions Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. The Irish veteran responded by assisting Belair, solidifying her status as a face. On the same night, though, WWE announced that Lynch had sustained a separated shoulder and would be out for several months. Later, during an edition of Monday Night RAW, Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky assaulted Becky Lynch backstage, thus effectively writing her off of WWE Programming.
Becky Lynch returned to WWE as "The Man" on the November 25, 2022 episode of SmackDown and joined Bianca Belair's squad as the fifth and final member for the titular match of Survivor Series: War Games event. Lynch's team won the match at the Premium Live Event after Lynch performed a Double Diving Leg Drop from the top of the cage on Kai and Sky, pinning Kai and sealing the victory.
Lynch later competed in the Women's Royal Rumble match and entered as number 15, successfully defeating Kai and Sky before being eliminated by Bayley. The Man's fight with Damage CTRL continued, with longtime opponent and WWE Hall of Famer Lita joining forces with Lynch. Lynch and Lita defeated Damage CTRL to capture the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship on Monday Night RAW on February 27. Trish Stratus, who had returned, assisted the challengers in their victory by evening the odds. Lynch became the sixth Women's Triple Crown winner with this victory.
The Trio of Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus, and Lita then faced Damage CTRL in a 6-women tag team match at WrestleMania 39 which they managed to win. Later on the April 10 episode of RAW, Lita and Lynch were booked to defend their title against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez but Lita was attacked prior to the match. Stratus replaced Lita but the champions lost their title in the match.
Following the defeat, Stratus snapped and attacked Lynch turning heel. She was also revealed as the one who attacked Lita. Stratus and Lynch then faced off at Night of Champions in a match that Stratus won after Zoey Stark interfered on behalf of Stratus. The three women then met in the Money in the Bank match that Iyo Sky won. Lynch's frustration with Stratus and Stark grew. She defeated Stark on RAW to earn a rematch against Stratus, which she got at WWE Payback 2023.
NXT Women's Title and feuds (2023-Present)
At the event, Lynch defeated Stratus after Stark turned on her mentor. Following the victory, she appeared on NXT on September 12, 2023, and challenged the NXT Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton for the title. In the match, Lynch became the NXT Women's Champion for the first time in her career. She held the gold for 42 days before losing it to Lyra Valkyria at Halloween Havoc.
Becky Lynch entered the Women's Royal Rumble match at #21 and eliminated Chelsea Green. After surviving for 23 minutes, she was eliminated by the debuting Jade Cargill. On the February 5 episode of Monday Night RAW, she defeated Shayna Baszler to punch her ticket to the Women's Elimination Chamber match. Lynch came out from the chamber as a winner and earned an opportunity to face Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Title at WrestleMania XL.
Women's World Champion
Becky Lynch failed to become the Women's World Champion against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania XL. However, the champion had to relinquish the title a week later due to an injury. On April 22, 2024, episode of RAW, Lynch won a battle royal for the vacant championship by last eliminating Liv Morgan. Her reign did not last long as she lost it to Liv Morgan just 32 days later at King and Queen of the Ring.
