Frederick "Fred" Couples, an American professional golfer, was born on October 3, 1959. He had won 64 professional titles as of March 2025, 15 of which were on the PGA Tour and 14 of which were on the PGA Tour Champions. In 1978, while still an amateur, he won the Washington State Buick Open, his first professional event. He turned pro in 1980, joined the PGA Tour in 1981, and took home his first PGA title at the Kemper Open in 1983 (canceled in 2006). He became the world's No. 1 golfer in March 1992; the same year, he won the Masters Tournament.

Couples has also won two Players Championships, in 1984 and 1996. Further, Couples' honors and awards include being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013; being the PGA Tour Player of the Year and Money List Winner in 1992; being the Champions Tour Rookie of the Year in 2010 and Champions Tour Byron Nelson Award winner in 2010, 2012 and 2013; and winning the Vardon Trophy and the Byron Nelson Award in 1991 and 1992.
