That's all from us then! We hope you enjoyed our coverage of this LPL game between the Colombo Stars and the Dambulla Aura! This is Soumarya Dutta, signing off on behalf of my partner Mohul Bhowmick. See you soon!
Kasun Rajitha, Player of the Match spoke about his performance and said how well he enjoyed putting the ball in the right areas on this surface. He also spoke of how he wants to focus on the basics and how well his team is performing at the moment.
Dasun Shanaka, Dambulla Aura Captain- This really hurts and we have not really played up to our potential so far. The youngsters as well as the senior players haven't really delivered and it has cost us. Our Team combination hasn't really been the best and it really matters in a tough competition like this.
Angelo Matthews, Colombo Stars Captain - We are coming to the business end of the tournament and I'm glad that we are clicking at the right moment. It was a heroic effort from Kasun Rajitha, too blow away the Dambulla Aura batting. We had a lot of faith on our boys coming into this game and winning games really gives you that confidence. We hope to carry this momentum forward into the tournament.
This has been an emphatic win for the Colombo Stars! They were chasing a really small total and they got there in some style. There was some drama early on as Pramod Madhushan dismissed Niroshan Dickwella of the first ball of the innings, but from there on it was a Charith Asalanka show. The left handed south paw put on a real batting masterclass as he reached his maiden LPL fifty. Veteran Dinesh Chandimal gave him good company as the duo knocked off this total in just 12 overs. In the end Asalanka finished off with 58 while Chandimal remained unbeaten on 31.
For the Dambulla Aura, well there bowlers just didn't have enough runs on the board to defend. Pramod Madhushan got the sole wicket but the other bowlers really struggled to contain the Sri Lankan international duo of Asalanka and Chandimal. Lahiru Kumara in particular was really expensive as he went for 27 in his three overs. Van Meekeren too, was taken to the sword as he gave away 24 in his two overs.
Overall, it has been a much needed win for the Colombo Stars! This win will not only improve their net run rate but will also help them to climb up the points table. For Dambulla, their journey in this tournament is all but over as they have lost their fifth successive game. It has been a really disappointing campaign for them and they only have pride to play for from here on.
