Born on February 05, 1990, in Wattala, Sri Lanka, Jeffrey Dexter Francis Vandersay is a leg-spinner who represents the men's national cricket team of Sri Lanka in international cricket. He is a wily leg-break bowler with a small stature of 5 ft 7 in and bats right-handed at the tail of the batting order.
Vandersay has a terrific domestic record but has been on and off for Sri Lanka in the international circuit. He graduated from the Wesley College, Colombo.

Jeffrey Vandersay Career
Jeffrey Vandersay has been a regular name in the Sri Lankan domestic circuit and has been a consistent performer with the ball across formats.
Jeffrey Vandersay Domestic Career
Jeffrey Vandersay made his domestic debut in a List-A match for Seeduwa Raddoluwa Cricket Club against Burgher Recreation Club on December 27, 2010. He scored 17 runs off 25 balls with the bat but went wicketless with the ball in his maiden outing.
On February 18, 2011, Vandersay made his first-class (FC) debut for Seeduwa Raddoluwa Cricket Club against Police Sports Club. He impressed in the very second innings as the leggie took a six-wicket haul on FC debut.
A year later, he made his T20 debut for Moors Sports Club against Police Sports Club on March 26, 2012, and took two wickets.
Vandersay was named in the Dambulla squad for the 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament in March 2018 and for the Dambulla One-day team in April 2018.
He joined the Galle squad for the 2018 SLC T20 League.
Jeffrey Vandersay International Career
Jeffrey Vandersay has been in the Sri Lankan mix for around a decade now but has not gotten a long run to prove his mettle. On June 23, 2018, Vandersay was handed a one-year suspension sentence and fined 20% of his annual contract on disciplinary grounds.
Jeffrey Vandersay ODI Career
Jeffrey Vandersay made his One-Day International debut for Sri Lanka in a match against New Zealand on December 28, 2015. Vandersay was destroyed by some exceptional hitting from Martin Guptill and conceded 34 runs from two overs.
In April 2019, Jeffrey Vandersay was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2019. He played a solitary match against West Indies and picked up the wicket of skipper Jason Holder. Vandersay’s ODI career peaked when he returned with figures of 6/33 against India in the second ODI of India’s tour of Sri Lanka 2024. It was a blessing in disguise for the 34-year-old leggie as he was named as a replacement for the injured all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
Vandersay ripped through the Indian top order by spinning a web and became the first spinner to take each of the first six wickets to fall in the opposition’s innings. Vandersay also became the fifth Sri Lankan bowler to take 6 or more wickets in an ODI against India after Muttiah Muralidharan, Ajantha Mendis, Angelo Mathews, and Akila Dananjaya.
In the process, he helped Sri Lanka attain an ODI victory against India after three years and was rightly adjudged the ‘Player Of The Match.’
Jeffrey Vandersay T20I Career
Jeffrey Vandersay’s first international exposure was when he played in the tour match between SLCB President's XI and Pakistanis in June 2015, during Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka. Jeffrey made his Twenty20 International debut for Sri Lanka against Pakistan on 30 July 2015. On his debut game, Jeffrey remained wicketless for 25 runs from four overs.
He played in major tournaments in the form of the ACC T20 Asia Cup 2016, ICC World T20 (WT20) 2016, and ICC T20 World Cup (T20 WC) 2022 and was part of the victorious Sri Lankan squad that won the ACC T20 Asia Cup 2022.
Jeffrey Vandersay Test Career
Jeffrey Vandersay made his Test debut against Australia in Galle on June 29, 2022. It was his only Test and he managed to pick up the wickets of opener Usman Khawaja and bowler Mitchell Starc.
