Chandradasa Brahamanna Ralalage Lahiru Sudesh Kumara, popularly known as Lahiru Kumara, is a Sri Lankan cricketer born on February 13, 1997, in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. He is an aggressive right-arm fast pacer and a left-handed batter. Kumara represents the Galle Marvels in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Kumara came through the ranks of the Sri Lankan Under-19 squad at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016.

Lahiru Kumara Career

Lahiru Kumara’s professional career has had its fair share of ups and downs. Over the years, the right-arm quick has overcome hurdles in the form of injuries and proven his mettle with his rigid pace.

Lahiru Kumara Domestic Career

Lahiru Kumara made his domestic debut after representing the Sri Lankan Under-19s at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2016. He made his first-class (FC) debut for Sri Lanka A against West Indies A in Colombo on October 4, 2016, in the West Indies A tour of Sri Lanka in 2016. He picked up a solitary wicket in the first innings and scored an unbeaten 12 off 26 balls in the second.

In the SLC Twenty-20 Tournament, Kumara made his T20 debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club against Kalutara Town Club in Colombo on February 24, 2018. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but was economical with the ball in the second. On his T20 debut, Kumara returned with figures of 3-0-12-2 at an economy of 4.00. Kumara represents the Nondescripts Cricket Club in the Major Club Limited-Overs Tournament in List-A cricket.

Lahiru Kumara International Career

Lahiru Kumara made his international debut for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe in a Test in 2016. Though Kumara made his international debut in 2016, he has yet to be considered a senior pro within the Sri Lankan pace bowling unit. Kumara’s frequent injury concerns have made the pace bowler in and out of the Sri Lankan squad.

Lahiru Kumara ODI Career

Lahiru Kumara made his ODI debut for Sri Lanka against South Africa in Johannesburg during Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa on February 4, 2017. He scored 5 runs off 7 balls and picked up the wicket of the opener. Quinton de Kock. Kumara was drafted into the Sri Lanka squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in India. He started on a great note, before being ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury on the left thigh. Fellow right-arm pacer Dushmantha Chameera replaced Kumara for the rest of the tournament.

Lahiru Kumara Test Career

At 19 years of age, Lahiru Kumara made his Test debut for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe on October 29, 2016, in Harare in the first Test of Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2016. Zimbabwean pacer Christopher Mpofu dismissed him for a golden duck in the first innings. Kumara picked up three wickets across the two innings on his maiden international outing.

Kumara picked up his maiden Test five-wicket haul against South Africa in January 2017. In the process, he became the second-youngest Sri Lankan to take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Lahiru Kumara T20I Career

Under the captaincy of Lasith Malinga, Lahiru Kumara made his T20I debut for Sri Lanka against New Zealand in Auckland in the only T20I match of Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand on January 11, 2019. He went wicketless but was economical with the ball.

The Sri Lankan has played in a couple of editions of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022 respectively. He picked up 8 wickets in 7 innings at the T20 World Cup 2021 held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. In the T20 World Cup 2022 held in Australia, he took 7 wickets in 6 innings.

Lahiru Kumara Under-19 Career

Lahiru Kumara represented the Sri Lankan Under-19s at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 held in Bangladesh. He picked up 4 wickets in 3 innings at an average of 26.25 and an economy of 4.28.
