That wraps the action from the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today. We've had two entertaining encounters. This one, in particular, was a bit of ride with some steep ebbs and flows. In the end, Lahore Qalandars came out on top. It has been a joy bringing you the ball by ball action. But now, it is time for us to sign off. This is me, Darpan Tikiya, along with my co-commentator Arya Sekhar Chakraborty, bidding you goodbye! Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for more sporting action.
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars captain): Team effort and the we have played the last five matches has been good. The winning mojo wasn't quite there but happy to end with a win. All matches went to the final over. The new ball was swinging around and we felt 150-160 would be a good score. We knew that it won't be easy to chase as strokemaking gets difficult when you hit the length. We are two time champions and we always play for pride. Credit goes to Lahore Qalandars. They have always tried to bring in the best talents from Pakistan. Whole team is happy for Tayyab Tahir who performed very well.
Rassie van der Dussen (Player of the Match): I have had a great three weeks and thankfully we could end it with a win. Happy from the personal front as well. I think the pitch brought the bowlers into the game a bit more. Playing against the new ball was tough. The message was to take it deep. Not necessarily a particular bowler but a particular length which the guys bowled. From a good length it was hard to manoeuvre. In a pitch like this, if you are not clear enough you will be found out. The message was clear. Commit yourself to the plans and don't play any half hearted shots.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony with Amir Sohail.
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): I think the way the pitch played, I felt the pitch was very good to bat on. We lost due to poor dismissals. Feeling good for Faheem who has always helped us in crunch situations. We haven't managed to stitch partnerships in the matches we have lost. The momentum got away from us due to our fielding in the last five overs. The way Munro enjoys his game is always great. He was batting well today as well. The way Naseem left, he has come back strongly. You always need some time. In the last two three matches, he has certainly risen to the occasion. The pitch became very good in the second innings. If we had played cricketing shots and played sensibly, we should have got over the line.
Zaman Khan: My plan was to bowl as many length deliveries as possible. Thanks to the almighty that we finally managed to click as an unit. The shoulder seems fine, you don't get to know those things when in ground. I have worked hard on the slow dip ones. It has helped me a lot. Some of the players got injured, some of the players didn't raise to the occasion. Fakhar wasn't in form and I also didn't execute the Yorkers. Shaheen just told me that have faith in yourself. You have done this for a long time and you can win it today. The players are always under pressure as the fans always expect us to perform well.
Lahore Qalandars win by 17 runs.
Rassie van der Dussen 64 (44) | Zaman Khan 4/37 Faheem Ashraf 41* (31) | Rumman Raees 2/19
Finally, Lahore Qalandars pick up a win in PSL 9. It hasn't been an easy ride for them through the tournament. Neither was tonight. They looked down and out at multiple points in their batting innings, but kept on fighting. Eventually, they were able to put on a decent score.
The consensus from the pundits was that they'd need early wickets and their new ball bowlers did not disappoint. Zaman, Afridi, Wiese and Jahandad each got a wicket in the powerplay and Munro's runout meant Islamabad had lost half their side within the first 6 overs.
But United kept on fighting too. We saw a couple of entertaining cameos. First was Azam Khan's flamboyant 29 (19) followed by Naseem Shah's pugnacious 27 (16). But it was Faheem Ashraf who took the game deep. When he smashed Zaman Khan for 14 in 3 balls, you felt Islamabad were right in it. Alas, Ashraf got stranded at the non-striker's end as he ran out of partners.
They have reviewed this! But it's more out of desperation. It always looked dead in water. Faheem Ashraf is left stranded at 41* (31) with United falling 18 runs short.
18.5 Zaman Khan to Rumman Raees, WICKET! That looked absolutely dead. Was too good a delivery for a No 11. Rumman has taken the review but is unlikely to change the outcome of the decision. A swinging yorker on the boots of Rumman, he was very late in bringing his bat down, thuds onto his toes. Was that sliding down?
Clearly no bat involved as suggested by ultra-edge. Off to ball-tracking, impact in line and wickets umpire's call. The Lahore Qalandars finally manage to register their maiden win of this PSL season. Wins by 17 runs.
Rumman Raees lbw b Zaman Khan 2 (5b, 0x4, 0x6)
2 balls for Rumman Raees to negotiate. Also, Lahore are behind the over rate.
