That brings us to the end of this contest from PSL. It was yet again the Islamabad United who outclassed the opposition, winning their game on a trot. Meanwhile the Multan Sultans have lost both their games so far and have a lot to ponder on. From Sportskeeda's comm box this is the pair of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Rajarshi Das signing off. Good night !
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): I feel that when we batted first, it looked a bit tacky. The way Sahibzada and Munro gave the start and the way Haider and Holder finished gave us the momentum. Dew was there in the second innings and it was behaving like a proper Pindi wicket so I feel this is the best performance from us. I came to bowl early due to my match ups. Celebrations are part and parcel of the game. The angle against left hander is a good match up against Iftikhar. The attitude was great from Shahzad. It's just the start of the tournament, we still have seven matches left but we have started clicking the boxes. Hopefully this the right moment to click.
Jason Holder (Player of the Match): Yeah just enjoyed the game, we were tested a bit but we need to keep improving and get better as a team. It was important to read the pace of the wicket. I tried to read what was happening. I tried to stay as low as I can and hold my base as well I could. I was happy with my plans today. I really executed the plans. I did concede a couple of boundaries early in my spell which I could have a look at.
Time for the post match presentation ceremony with Bazid Khan.
Mohammad Rizwan, Multan Sultans captain: We had too many runs to chase. The way the ball was gripping in the first innings, we thought it won't later on, given the form Farhan was in. They got momentum after the powerplay. We tried catching up after the powerplay, we did eventually. We're trying to build momentum because the key moments aren't going in our favour. The mistakes we made in this match are what we'll fix going forward. Their execution was perfect, bowled in the right areas as well. There were mistakes from our side.
12:24 AM local time (12:54 AM IST): Islamabad United won by 47 runs
Sahibzada Farhan 53(35) | Jason Holder 4/25(4) Mohammad Rizwan 38(27) | Chris Jordan 2/41(4)
It turned out to be a brilliant bowling effort from Islamabad United as they defended the score 202 quite comfortably in the end. The pitch looked like a belter to be honest and despite some good batting in the middle overs, they lost the plot in the last few overs. They kept losing one after the other and despite a valiant effort from Iftikhar Ahmed, he couldn't quite get the job done.
The Multan Sultans lost opener Shai Hope in the very first over but the complexion of the game changed from the next over as Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan shared a quickfire stand to bring them back into the game. Both kept finding the boundaries on a consistent basis and it looked the Multan Sultans were well and truly in with a chance.
The partnership of 59 runs came at a rapid rate as they were scoring at more than 10 an over before the end of the powerplay. However Usman Khan who was smashing some lusty blows departed in the 6th over. Kamran Ghulam looked in good touch for a knock of 17 while Rizwan was dismissed for 38 at a crucial juncture of the game.
Michael Bracewell then came out with some positive intent and was trying to turn it around for the Multan Sultans. However once he fell, there was a cluster of wickets and there was no way back for the Multan Sultans. They lost their last six wickets for just 35 runs as Islamabad registered a convincing 47 run victory. Stay tuned for the post match presentation ceremony.
Last wicket to fall was of Iftikhar Ahmed
18.4 Muhammad Shahzad to Iftikhar Ahmed, HOLES OUT, and that is the end of that! Shahzad takes the pace off this time, landing it on a three-quarter length outside off. Iftikhar swings at it hard looking to go leg side, gets a whole lot of height on it, but nearly not enough distance. Doesn't quite hit it in the direction he desired either. Jason Holder runs across from long off, takes it comfortably, and seals a 47-run win for Islamabad United
18.3 Muhammad Shahzad to Iftikhar Ahmed, slow, back of a length outside off. Iftikhar slashes at it, doesn't get enough timing behind it. Sweeper cover runs to his left and picks up
18.2 Muhammad Shahzad to Iftikhar Ahmed, back of a length outside off at pace. Flat-batted towards the mid-on region without timing
