Day 4 - Mumbai beat Andhra by 10 wickets!
Back-to-back wins for Mumbai and with the bonus point again as they hand Andhra a drubbing by 10 wickets. While Andhra entered the lead on the fourth morning, they were dismissed for 244 with their lead restricted to just 33. Shaik Rasheed top-scored with 66 while the lower order also chipped in to take the match into the fourth innings. Jay Bista (26*) and Bhupen Lalwani (8*) took 8.4 overs to wipe out the target as the 41-time champions coasted to a comfortable victory.
Stumps on Day 3 - Andhra 166/5 (f/o), trail Mumbai by 45 runs in the 2nd innings.
Andhra needed a fighting effort and Hanuma Vihari combined forces with Shaik Rasheed to provide exactly that. A 68-run fifth wicket partnership was broken when Royston Dias had Vihari caught behind for 46 although Rasheed remained unbeaten on 52 by Stumps with Nitish Kumar Reddy giving him company on 22. Can Mumbai's bowlers start afresh and seal an innings win on the fourth morning?
Tea on Day 3 - Andhra 69/4 (f/o) in the 2nd innings, trail Mumbai by 142 runs.
The misery continues for Andhra, who have been asked to follow on by Mumbai. After being reduced to 19/3, skipper Ricky Bhui counter-attacked with a brisk 21-ball 28 before Shams Mulani continued with his merry wicket-taking ways as he prized the set batter out. Hanuma Vihari (19*) is out in the middle and needless to say, he has to produce a majestic innings here to avert an innings defeat.
Lunch on Day 3 - Andhra 184 all out in the 1st innings; Mumbai lead by 211 runs.
A superb morning saw Mumbai extend their dominance over Andhra in their second round contest, bowling the visitors out for just 184. Things went awry for Andhra once Prasanth Kumar was trapped in front by Dhawal Kulkarni for 73 and while wicket-keeper Girinath remained unbeaten on 34, the rest folded like a pack of cards with Shams Mulani returning a six-wicket haul. With a shot at bagging seven points, it is likely that Mumbai will enforce the follow-on.
Stumps on Day 2 - Andhra 98/3, trail Mumbai by 297 runs in the 1st innings.
Prasanth Kumar (59*) had to bear witness to wickets tumbling regularly as Andhra lost three big ones before Stumps, including that of Shaik Rasheed and Hanuma Vihari. Skipper Ricky Bhui (4*) is still batting though and he has to produce a special knock to take the challenge to Mumbai's bowlers. Left-arm spinner Shams Mulani bagged two wickets to leave Andhra in a spot of bother.
Tea on Day 2 - Andhra 26/0, trail Mumbai by 369 runs in the 1st innings
Andhra finally managed to breach the lower-order resistance as Mumbai were bowled out for 395 with Mohit Avasthi scoring 53. In response, openers CR Gnaneshwar (5*) and Prasanth Kumar (21*) saw off a tricky period prior to Tea and will look to build a huge partnership with the likes of Shaik Rasheed, Hanuma Vihari and skipper Ricky Bhui to follow.
Lunch on Day 2 - Mumbai 362/8 in the 1st innings.
It's been slow going for Mumbai on the second morning. While Tanush Kotian was dismissed for 54, Shams Mulani departed for 38 with the duo sharing a 91-run stand for the seventh wicket. Dhawal Kulkarni is batting on 11 off 51 deliveries and has hung in with Mohit Avasthi (34*). Can the hosts drag themselves past 400?
Stumps on Day 1 - Mumbai 281/6 in the 1st innings.
An unbeaten 57-run stand for the seventh wicket has given Mumbai a slight edge at the end of the first day's play against Andhra. Tanush Kotian (31*) and Shams Mulani (30*) kept the bowlers at bay and frustrated them to wrest control in favor of the hosts but only just. The longer this partnership continues, the better Mumbai's chances will be of posting 350.
Tea on Day 1 - Mumbai 205/5 in 61 overs (1st innings)
Mumbai continue to score at a positive rate but they have been kept in check by the Andhra bowlers. Lalwani and Parkar couldn't convert their starts into big scores while Shreyas Iyer breezed away to a run-a-ball 48 before falling to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Wicket-keeper batter Prasad Pawar and all-rounder Shams Mulani now have the task of taking their team past 300.
Lunch on Day 1 - Mumbai 104/2 in 35 overs (1st innings).
On the back of a convincing innings win over Bihar, 41-time champions Mumbai have begun solidly in their second round clash against Andhra. A 69-run opening stand between Jay Bista and Bhupen Lalwani set the hosts on their way before Nitish Kumar Reddy's double-strike brought Andhra back into the contest. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who missed Mumbai's first game with a neck injury, bagged a golden duck while Suved Parkar (8*) is currently batting with Lalwani (54*), with Shreyas Iyer to follow next.
