An excellent performance all round from Nepal but it was just not to be in the end! South Africa held on to their nerves and used all their experience to get over the line. They remain unbeaten in the tournament but have a lot of work to do, especially with the bat. Nepal can hold their heads high and come back stronger against Bangladesh at the very same venue on Sunday night. As far as Group C goes, both Sri Lanka and Nepal are now out of the Super-8s contention. So, that will be all from our coverage at the Arnos Vale Ground in St. Vincent. This is the pair of Lavil and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): Really grateful for having got over the line, but we have a lot of learnings to take from these matches into the next phase, in the next couple of days. I thought that our bowling attack was well rounded, but did not expect it to turn so much. Anyway, we have done well to keep things tight right through the second innings. Credit to Nepal for playing such a wonderful brand of cricket! They have a lot of talent in their change-room. But as I said, we have a lot of learnings to take from these games. Tabraiz Shamsi didn't play for a while, so we wanted to give him a game before the next round of matches, Keshav Maharaj is not injured. Had we understood that the pitch would play like this, both were sure to be picked but Keshav has done a tremendous job for us over the years.
Rohit Kumar Paudel (Nepal captain): Really proud of out boys! They gave it their all and almost got the job done. Our bowlers did a great job in keeping the pressure applied on the batting. This pitch did help them, but the lines and lengths bowled were spectacular. We did okay with the bat, just that we should have done better in the crunch moments. I want to thank all our Nepali fans for supporting us so well for so many years! The wins are not far away if we keep getting this kind of support.
Tabraiz Shamsi (Player of the Match, 4/19): Relieved, we came with the intention of winning all the games and have all the margins checked out now. Anywhere we go in the Caribbean we are going to have spin, the fast bowlers did it in New York and the spinners will have to do it now. (On Nepal) They played an excellent game, utilised the conditions brilliantly. The wicket got better as the game went on and they did well to use the conditions. We have been put under pressure and have stood up to that. We knock when this team is rolling, everyone knows their roles and we have to take it one game at a time
Relief for South Africa, heartbreak for Nepal! Yes this wasn't an easy pitch for batting, but against such a high-quality South African bowling attack, the inexperienced Nepali batters almost pulled off a heist of epic proportions!
The chase began with Nepal making sure that they kept themselves abreast with the asking rate. The problem for them was that couldn't quite rotate strike. But as the innings went on, that aspect of the game got better.
It was the introduction of Tabraiz Shamsi that changed the course of the innings! His four overs produced 4 wickets for only 19 runs, exactly like Kushal Bhurtel when he bowled. Aiden Markram's couple of overs also proved to be handy for the Proteas.
Aasif Sheikh was needed to bat longer, but he could not quite make it happen after scoring an impressive 42. Not to forget that he was dropped early on by Kagiso Rabada of his own bowling. Dipendra Singh Airee, someone who tends to provide for some top performances, could not fire tonight.
But of course, the partnership between Aasif and Anil Sah was worth 50 runs, which brought the asking rate down and gave many a Nepali fan the hope of an big win tonight! Towards the end, when it looked as though South Africa were going to get the job done, Sompal Kami and Gulshan Jha had other ideas.
Sompal smashed a big six off Anrich Nortje's slower delivery and then, picked up two runs to give Gulshan 8 runs to get off the last over. Interestingly, Aiden Markram chose to go with Ottniel Baartman, ahead of Kagiso Rabada! After missing out on the first two balls, the 18-year-old left-hander picked up 6 runs off the next two to bring it down to 2 off 2!
But a dot ball in the next delivery and then, the missed opportunity of getting a run off the final ball and taking it to the Super Over meant that Nepal's campaign is over for the tournament!
Dear oh dear me! Gushan Jha was not quick enough to realize that he had to drag his bat in as fast as possible. And that has ended their hopes of qualifying for the Super-8s! South Africa pull off a win yet again when they had their backs to the wall.

19.6 Ottneil Baartman to Gulsan Jha, SOUTH AFRICA WIN! Short from Baartman, Jha has a play and a miss and runs hard. It ricochets off the back of a player and Klaasen effects a clutch run out at the non striker's end. Jha, 18 years old, is just short of his ground and is run out. South Africa win a humdinger by 1 run, but It has been an excellent effort from Nepal
Gulshan Jha run out (Heinrich Klaasen) 6 (6b, 1x4, 0x6)
Alright, this is it - 2 runs to get, 1 ball remaining! Who wins?
19.5 Ottneil Baartman to Gulsan Jha, short from Baartman and Jha has a play and a miss. Final ball, 2 runs needed. 1 run will take it to a Super Over!
