Commentary

So after 3 absorbing Test matches in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi, we are finally bidding good bye. But a word on Azhar Ali is more that apt now. After 97 Test matches and over 7000 Test runs, he has decided to bid farewell to this game. He would liked to do so on a winning note, but all endings are fairytales after all. England have been mighty impressive under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, and with Brendon McCullum at the helm in the coaching side of things, this leadership group is taking the longest format of the game by storm, and how! But the action continues in Pakistan, with New Zealand paying them a visit. The first Test of the 2-match series begins on the 27th of December, and the Blackcaps will be led for the first time in whites, by their experienced pacer, Tim Southee. It should be another mouth-watering contest to look forward to! For now, this is the pair of Pratyush and Bidipto, taking your leave. Ben Stokes (England captain): (On the performance of his team in the series) Perfect! (On the approach) I think, we have got a process in place to play, but the one thing that has stood out in this series, is that we have stuck to our approach, while adapting to the different pitches and conditions. It all comes down to belief I reckon. The belief I have in my players has rubbed off on the rest of the players pretty well, and we are a fully confident unit right now when it comes to performing at crucial times. (On players like Brook and Rehan Ahmed stepping up to the plate) Harry Brook has been simply outstanding in this series, he has actually set Pakistan on fire with the kind of batting he has displayed. Rehan Ahmed of course, 18 years of age, picking up 5 wickets in an innings and helping us win this game, is a matter of pride I'm sure for his family and us. (On the fans and the Pakistani crowd) There was tremendous support from both the England fans and the Pakistani fans. The Pakistani crowd supported the brand of cricket we played and we cannot thank them enough for the kind of celebration of the game we love.

Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): Disappointing series as a team. We weren't good enough to fight back but credit also goes to England. They played really well. We lost (this game) in the first innings. We were good in patches but not consistent overall. (Bowling) It has been a challenge when your best bowlers are not fit. We have a lot of positives to take from this series to take into the next one but we also have to fix up our mistakes too.

Trophies galore for Harry Brook first up. He's not only the Player of the Match, he is also the Player of the Series. He has certainly announced himself on the big stage. Here's what he has to say: Probably been my best tour so far. To come out here and win three nil. Nobody has done it before, so it is special. I was pretty annoyed at myself when I got out to Abrar in the second Test. To bounce back from that was quite nice. I've only really batted at five. We sent a few boys early to try and finish last night.

England win the match by 8 wickets and the Test series, 3-0.

It took England 10 overs and 1 ball to finish the job, without losing another wicket. Ben Duckett and Ben Stokes got to a 50-run partnership, but unfortunately for the skipper, that one six to become the most over-boundary hitter in Test history, could not quite happen. However, a commanding victory was achieved none the less.

Pakistan bowled Abrar Ahmed from one end, and Mohammad Wasim from the other end. They hoped to provide Babar Azam with a wicket or two with England batting positively. There were one or two half-opportunities, but England, with their attacking approach, did not let wither bowler settle down. Perhaps the only positive for Pakistan this morning, was a maiden over from Wasim.

The batting from the visitors was first-class in this innings though. A target of over 160 could have been slightly tricky. But with the runs coming thick and fast right from the start, things got a whole lot easier and the hosts were left somewhat stunned, and searching for answers, yet again!

Just the refreshing batting approach from England, right through the series, has been a massive difference between the sides and this innings was no different.

As far the bowling was concerned in this match, young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, on debut, produced a match-winning 5-wicket haul in Pakistan's second innings to tilt the match in favour of the hosts. And the bowling of Jack Leach, which was pretty controlled, very much right through the Test match, helped England get a firm grip on the proceedings with the ball.

Harry Brook, who was once again a centurion in this series, batted superbly right through these three matches at a fair clip, and has become a new star with the bat for his team in this format of the game for sure.

Finally, the pitch at the National Stadium played a little disappointingly, but Pakistan, the hosts, should have batted a lot better in the second innings to make the match more interesting. They have a really quick turnaround to make in a few days against New Zealand, who play a slightly different brand of cricket, but are a force to reckon with away from home.

As for England, they have been brilliant under this leadership group! Only 1 Test defeat and 9 Test victories. Simply awesome! Their new style of cricket is taking the world by storm and kind of redefining the way to play Test cricket. They have handed the hosts a whitewash, for the first time in their backyard and Pakistan may not be the first team to suffer at their hands if there are loopholes in the team tactics.

28.1 Mohammad Wasim to Ben Duckett, ENGLAND COMPLETE THE WHITEWASH! Full delivery outside the off-stump, Duckett drills it through the covers to finish proceedings in style! It's the first time Pakistan have been whitewashed at home in a Test series. That's a massive feat for England, who came to for the first time Pakistan after 17 years. England win by 8 wickets and seal the series 3-0!
