Rehan Ahmed Career

At the age of eighteen years and 126 days, Rehan Ahmed made history by being the youngest player to represent England in Test cricket. His December 2022 debut in Karachi was nothing short of extraordinary. On one of the grandest stages in cricket, Rehan showed off his brilliance by taking five wickets in the second innings of Pakistan which changed the course of the match.

Rehan was an all-rounder with leg spin who was predicted to be outstanding from an early age. Before turning twelve, he was invited to bowl in the nets at Lord's during England's Test match against Pakistan, demonstrating his talent. Shane Warne, the cricket legend, watched Rehan bowl the following summer and predicted that he would make his first-class debut at fifteen. Warne was mistaken by a few years in his prognosis, but Rehan still demonstrated his prodigious abilities.

Rehan had already had a stellar tournament while leading England to the Under-19 World Cup final by the time he made his first-class debut in May 2022. Even before his professional debut, Southern Brave saw his performance and signed him for £50,000 in the Hundred draft. His career took off, and he was called up to the England Lions squad for their match against South Africa in the middle of summer. This chance arose as a result of his outstanding performances in the T20 Blast for Leicestershire, a county he had moved from Nottinghamshire to in late 2017.

Rehan cemented his status as a rising star even further with his maiden first-class century and his first five-wicket haul in his season's third and final County Championship match. He was quickly added to England's squad for the series against Pakistan, which was a natural place for him to make his debut given his family's history.

Naeem, Rehan's father, was born and raised in Pakistan and later immigrated to the UK to work as a cab driver. Rehan's debut was witnessed by Naeem, who joyously stood in the huddle as Nasser Hussain gave his son his England cap. Farhan and Raheem, Rehan's two brothers, are also avid cricket fans. Cricket is a true family affair, with Raheem, a left-arm seamer, and Rehan, an offspinner, adamant that he is the best player in the family.

Rehan Ahmed domestic Career

Rehan Ahmed made his List A debut for Leicestershire on 25 July 2021 during the Royal London One-Day Cup. Before this, he was selected for the County Select XI to face India on their tour of England.

In early 2022, Ahmed was a key member of England's squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, held in the West Indies. He played in four of England's six matches and made a significant impact by taking 12 wickets, helping England reach the final. Despite their efforts, England finished as runners-up, losing to India.

In April 2022, Ahmed's potential was recognized by the Southern Brave, who bought him for the 2022 season of The Hundred. That same month, Leicestershire secured his services with a contract extension, ensuring he would stay with the team until at least the end of 2026.

Ahmed continued to make strides in his cricketing career by making his first-class debut on 19 May 2022, again representing Leicestershire in the County Championship. A week later, he made his Twenty20 debut for the same team, showing his versatility across different formats of the game. His rapid rise through the ranks in domestic and international cricket highlights his talent and potential as a future star for both Leicestershire and England.
