A solid show from the Trinbago Knight Riders and they begin their CPL 2022 campaign with a couple of points on the board. For the St. Lucia Kings, they had some positives to take out in the form of Alzarri Joseph and Roshon Primus but they will delightedly welcome their overseas stars, including skipper Faf du Plessis for the next game. They were depleted today but will hope to turn in a better show in their next encounter with a full squad to pick from.

Hear from the two captains now:

Kieron Pollard (Trinbago Knight Riders Captain): We'll take the two points. Yes we'd have liked to finish a couple of overs before but you have to look at the equation. The guys haven't played cricket together for a while and these things tend to happen. (On managing workload of players) We have invested a lot on these players so we're going all out to win. Having said that they are international players. We will look to manage them but at the same time we want to win as a team.

Roston Chase (St. Lucia Kings Captain): We didn't really get off how we'd have liked with the batting. Thought we were 20-25 runs short. Probably the over I gave Mark cost us the game as well. It was a mistake on my part. (On the return of their overseas stars?) These guys play cricket all over the world and they bring their experience and cricketing ability to our side.

Akeal Hosein is the Player of the Match for his sensational returns of 4/13 off his 4 overs. Hear from the man himself: (On his injury) It's too early to say but fingers crossed, hopefully it's not too bad. We'll definitely have a check on it. For me I'm pretty flexible wherever the skipper needs me to bowl. It's just about going out there brave and confident. If you're clear on where to execute, more often than not you will come out on top. It was slow at the start - it didn't spin as sharply as we expect it to in the morning games but it was slow. I was ready to come out and bat if required for the team.

It was a huff and a puff towards the end when they simply had to saunter towards the finish line. Of course, most of the damage was done already thanks to the efforts of Tion Webster and Tim Seifert but the Trinbago Knight Riders would have had their hearts in their mouth. In the end, all's well that ends well.

A couple of early wickets put this game in the balance with Jeavor Royal keeping it tight in the Powerplay. Tion Webster took control of the chase though and knocked the ball around before putting away the boundary balls. What he did well on a two-paced surface was target the V and launch the ball down the ground.

Tim Seifert used his reverse-sweeps to good effect and with Roston Chase opting to try a spin-stifle, it never materialized as the Knights cruised along with Seifert and Webster keeping them well ahead of the eight-ball. The latter notched up his second CPL half-century and it was turning into a stroll in the park for TKR.

A double-whammy though, saw Webster and Andre Russell depart in quick succession, bringing skipper Kieron Pollard to the middle. With uncertainty over Akeal Hosein's injury, he knocked it around with Tim Seifert to ensure that there wouldn't be any further hiccups. At least, that's what it seemed like, despite Seifert slowing down considerably.

A triple-whammy was to come in the penultimate over with both batters perishing as they went for the glory shot before Seekkuge Prasanna was castled. Pollard fell prey to a taste of his own medicine with Mark Deyal plucking a stunner out of thin air at long on, leaving the TKR skipper himself mighty impressed. It came down to the wire but in the end, Anderson Phillip held his nerve to seal it in grand style with a handsome blow over the bowler's head.

It was always going to be a question of when that one big strike was coming. And it's Anderson Phillip who finishes things in grand fashion and does what neither Pollard nor Seifert could succeed at in the previous over. Trinbago Knight Riders beat St. Lucia Kings by 3 wickets and 4 deliveries to spare!

19.2 Scott Kuggeleijn to Anderson Phillip, SIX! OH HOW ABOUT A SHOT AND A HALF TO SEAL IT! That's a stroke that would make a top-order batter proud alright! In the arc on off stump and Phillip lifts it handsomely over the bowler's head off his bottom hand. Powers it gun barrel straight and sends it soaring over the fence to draw the curtains on this contest. After a late huff and a puff, Trinbago Knight Riders win by 3 wickets!
