Sussex 149/5 in 19.5 overs Tom Alsop 51*(42) | Sunil Narine 2/18 Michael Burgess 48(28) | Daniel Worrall 2/36
What an unbelievable nail biting finish we've had here and Sussex have emerged victorious under difficult circumstances! Tom Alsop played an absolute gem of an innings under pressure and held on to his nerves! He scored an unbeaten 50 to take his side home! However it was the wicket keeper batsman Michael Burgess who played a belligerent knock of 48 of just 28 balls to bring Sussex back into the game after they were reeling at 64/4 in 12 overs. Earlier on Ali Orr had gotten off to a good start but he threw it away after getting to a brisk 24.
The Surrey bowlers started off really well initially with the spinners Will Jacks and Sunil Narine putting a stranglehold on the batters! They had pegged them on the backfoot for the major part of the game, however, once Sussex got a partnership going, it proved to be the turning point in the game as they failed to get the wicket! Daniel Worrall picked up two wickets but he was really expensive and his two overs may have cost them the game. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets in his miserly spell.
Overall, this has been a brilliant game of cricket and it will be Surrey who will be the more disappointed of the two sides as they had this game in their grasp but they let it slip away from them! The 16th over where 19 runs had come, proved to be the real difference in a low scoring encounter.
19.5 Thomas Lawes to Tom Alsop, that's it! Alsop does the finishing touch! Short ball angling in, pulls it away to deep mid-wicket
What a shot under pressure from Alsop to bring up his 50! It was too full and he launched it over the top of the bowler for a boundary! This game is Sussex's now!
19.4 Thomas Lawes to Tom Alsop, FOUR! Scores are level! And it's a FIFTY for Alsop! What a knock this has been. Full, but not full enough. Alsop hits it straight back over the bowler's head, one bounce into the fence
19.3 Thomas Lawes to James Coles, short of a length without much width. Slaps it straight to covers
19.2 Thomas Lawes to Tom Alsop, full ball wide of the off-stump. Alsop drills it through extra cover. The fielder in the deep gets around but it's not a clean pick up in the end. The batters manage to get back for the third
19.1 Thomas Lawes to James Coles, low full toss on the stumps. Plonks it to covers and takes one
Thomas Lawes [3.0-0-22-1] comes back into the attack.
Sam Curran will be considering himself really unlucky there as an lbw shout was turned down against him! We're going into the final over with 10 runs needed for the batting side! This game has been an absolute roller coaster.
