Jamie Smith Career

Jamie Smith’s potential was spotlighted during the 2022/23 winter season, when he achieved a remarkable milestone of scoring the fastest century by a Lions batsman in a four-day match against Sri Lanka in Galle, reaching the hundred in just 71 balls.

Smith's journey with the Lions began the previous summer after he impressively scored an unbeaten 234 against Gloucestershire. Although he faced challenges in subsequent innings, accumulating only 145 runs in his next ten outings, his performance reinforced the ECB's belief in his talent to shine both as a keeper and a batsman.

A product of Whitgift School, Smith stands out as a tall keeper with skills recognized from an early age. He made his Surrey debut just shy of his 18th birthday, stepping in for a T20 match against Middlesex at Lord's due to a squad crisis. His talent shone brightly in 2019, when he scored 90 and 104 in an Under-19 Test in Chattogram, followed by a remarkable 127 in his first-class debut against an MCC attack featuring Stuart Broad and Dom Bess.

His early career is marked by steady progression, as he represented Surrey from the Under-19 level through to the senior teams. Smith's talent was so evident that he frequently played in age-group teams above his own, even participating with older players like Tom Curran in the U-17s shortly after turning 12.

Jamie Smith Domestic Career

Since making his Surrey debut, Jamie Smith's outstanding achievements have garnered attention in the cricket world. At 17 years old, he took on Middlesex in the T20 Blast at the storied Lord's Cricket Ground on July 5, 2018, marking the beginning of his Twenty20 career. On March 24, 2019, a little over a year later, he made an incredible first-class debut in Dubai against the Marylebone Cricket Club. With his 127 runs in the first innings of this match, he became just the ninth player in Surrey's history to make a century on his debut. In addition, his score broke the previous record for the greatest total for a county debutant, which had been in place since 1899.

On April 25, 2019, he played in the One-Day Cup at the Oval against Middlesex and he made his List A debut sometime after that. He got his maiden double century in first-class cricket, when he scored an undefeated 234 against Gloucestershire in the County Championship in April 2022. His efforts enabled Surrey to win the championship in 2022 and 2023.

Smith joined the Birmingham Phoenix in March 2023 for the Hundred competition. On August 21, 2023, he reaffirmed his dedication to Surrey by agreeing to a new multi-year contract, guaranteeing that he would be an important squad member in the upcoming campaigns.
