Tamil Nadu beat Saurashtra by an innings and 33 runs, qualify for the semifinals.
A historic win for Tamil Nadu as they knock the defending champions out of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 to qualify for the semifinals. The hosts were bowled out for 338 in their first innings, securing a lead of 155 in the process. In reply, Saurashtra kept losing wickets regularly despite Cheteshwar Pujara's defiant 46 off 170 balls. Once his defense was breached by R Sai Kishore, an innings defeat was inevitable as the visitors folded for 122. Kishore finished with nine wickets for the game while Sandeep Warrier snared 3/18 in the second innings as Tamil Nadu go a step closer to clinching the title for the first time since 1987-88.
Stumps on Day 2 - Tamil Nadu 300/6, lead Saurashtra by 117 runs in the 1st innings.
Another excellent day for Tamil Nadu as they took a handy lead against Saurashtra to finish the day on 300/6 in Coimbatore. While the hosts were reduced to 85/3, night hawk R Sai Kishore (60) put the innings on track before the in-form Baba Indrajith (80) and Boopathi Vaishna Kumar (65) shared a superb partnership of 119 for the fifth wicket. Vijay Shankar (14*) and Mohamed Ali (17*) will now look to swell this lead past 150 and potentially 200 to shut the doors on Saurashtra.
Stumps on Day 1 - Tamil Nadu 23/1, trail Saurashtra by 160 runs in the 1st innings.
A fine day for hosts Tamil Nadu as they bowled defending champions Saurashtra out for 183 in the first innings. Wicket-keeper-opener Harvik Desai struck 83 off 105 balls but the rest, including Cheteshwar Pujara, failed to leave their mark with TN skipper R Sai Kishore snagging five wickets. While the hosts lost Vimal Khumar thereafter, Narayan Jagadeesan (12*) and Sai Kishore (6*) avoided further hiccups and will now look to get the team off to a good start tomorrow morning.
