Saurashtra beat Vidarbha by 238 runs, pocket six points from the match!
A thumping victory for Saurashtra as they bowl Vidarbha out for 134 in the second innings. Once Atharva Taide was dismissed for 54, the end was nigh as Chirag Jani's 5/51 sent Vidarbha tumbling to a heavy defeat. This marks Saurashtra's second win of the tournament and a much needed result on the back of a loss to Haryana. Vidarbha have suffered their first loss of the season though and next face Jharkhand in Ranchi.
Tea on Day 3 - Vidarbha 100/5 in the 2nd innings, need another 273 runs to win.
Atharva Taide (51*) was the lone man standing amidst the ruins as Vidarbha's batting lineup came apart again at the hands of Saurashtra's relentless bowling unit. All-rounders Prerak Mankad and Chirag Jani split the four wickets to fall in the session equally between them to leave Vidarbha in a real spot of bother. Saurashtra's second win of the tournament looks all but inevitable and there is a chance that they could wrap things up before Stumps today.
Lunch on Day 3 - Vidarbha 26/1 in the 2nd innings, need another 347 runs to win.
Another collapse! Saurashtra have suffered a fair few of these in the season thus far and once Sheldon Jackson (10) and Cheteshwar Pujara (66) were removed on the third morning, the rest followed suit quickly. 226/4 soon became 244 all out as Vidarbha's seamers accounted for eight of the ten wickets to fall. Saurashtra still remain favorites though courtesy of their mammoth first innings lead and Vidarbha's mountainous chase of 373 didn't start well with Dhruv Shorey (10) falling to Jaydev Unadkat.
Stumps on Day 2 - Saurashtra 205/3, lead Vidarbha by 333 runs in the 2nd innings.
A dream day for the defending champions. They could simply do no wrong with the batters taking over and driving the lead forward to a mammoth 333. Kevin Jivrajani (57) and Vishvarajsinh Jadeja (79) both struck half-centuries before the immovable Cheteshwar Pujara took over, ending the day unbeaten on 49. Another century for the veteran, anyone?
Lunch on Day 2 - Saurashtra 28/1 in the 2nd innings, lead Vidarbha by 156 runs.
It was the Chirag Jani show on the second morning as Saurashtra ran through two-time champions Vidarbha and rolled them over for a mere 78, pocketing a massive first innings lead of 128 in the process. Barring Atharva Taide who was dismissed on the first evening, Jitesh Sharma (28) was the only other batter to register double figures for the hosts. Umesh Yadav dismissed Harvik Desai first ball but Kevin Jivrajani (11*) and Vishvarajsinh Jadeja (15*) ensured no further hiccups until Lunch for the defending champions, who look primed for their second win of the season.
Stumps on Day 1 - Vidarbha 26/4, trail Saurashtra by 180 runs in the 1st innings.
Jaydev Unadkat remained unbeaten on 28 to drag Saurashtra to 206 before the bowlers took over to reduce Vidarbha to 26/4 by stumps. The four wickets that the hosts lost were all big ones as Dhruv Shorey, Ramaswamy Sanjay, Atharva Taide and Karun Nair failed to light up the evening. Skipper Akshay Wadkar played out 20 deliveries although he hasn't opened his account yet. Needless to say, he's going to have an enormous role to play tomorrow.
Tea on Day 1 - Saurashtra 183/8 in the 1st innings.
From a solid position, Saurashtra have suffered a dramatic collapse to find themselves reeling at Tea. Vidarbha, who weren't quite at their best in the morning despite asking the visitors to bat first, roared back in style with Umesh Yadav bagging four wickets. Aditya Thakare struck gold as he removed Cheteshwar Pujara for 43 and the defending champions are in complete disarray with skipper Jaydev Unadkat (12*) and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (0*) the incumbent batters.
Lunch on Day 1 - Saurashtra 110/2 in the 1st innings.
On the back of a defeat to Haryana, defending champions Saurashtra have begun well in their third round clash against Vidarbha. Having been asked to bat first in Nagpur, a 63-run opening stand between Kevin Jivrajani (15) and wicket-keeper Harvik Desai (68*) thwarted a Vidarbha attack featuring Umesh Yadav, Aditya Thakare and Yash Thakur. Cheteshwar Pujara (11*) is batting alongside Desai and clearly, Vidarbha's bowlers have plenty of work to do.
