Rohit Sharma (India captain): Look every run you score for your country is very important. It was a great effort with the ball from us to start with. Getting them bowled out for 150 set the game for us. We knew the pitch wasn’t easy to bat on but we held to our task. We had to bat long and that's what the guys did. We got in excess of 400 and then again did brilliantly with the ball. Jaiswal has got the talent. We knew about that. Showed a lot of patience and at no given stage it looked like he was panicking. In the middle it was just about chatting and letting him know that you belong here. Playing your first Test sometimes you think whether you belong here. I just asked him to stay calm and focused. I was just letting them know that we have an over or so. I just wanted Ishan to get off the mark. I wanted to tell him get your first run in Test cricket and then we have to declare. Playing your first Test match you are bound to get some nerves. It was just about letting him know. Yeah I know, the results speak for themselves. Both of these guys have been doing it for a while now. Not much to tell them. Its about giving them the freedom to express themselves. With the kind of experience these guys have in bowling like pitches like these, it’s always a luxury. To come out and bowl like this Ashwin just showed his class. Look its always nice to start well. First game of the new cycle. We wanted to come out and get the result. We don’t care about the pitch. Mentally we have to be prepared to play in any conditions. We played really well and its just about carrying the momentum to the second Test match. Just about having the new guys having some game time in the middle and ticking those boxes.
Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies captain): Well before going into the game, I want to thank the Dominica crowd. We let ourselves down with the bat and we knew our first innings score wasnt good innings. What was disappointing is I didnt make any runs. That’s my duty to lead from the front. Situation of the game at times we lost it but as a senior guy I have to lead the way. They are very tough to face (Ashwin and Jadeja). Its a bit of balance between how you execute your shots. Even today we had some defensive dismssials. We have to use our bat more than the pads which will help us in these conditions. Athanaze had a very good start. It looked he belongs at this level. His future is bright. He has a strong mind and I think he will do a lot of good in his cricketing career.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (Player of the Match): It was pretty good. We had a nice session and I had a chat with Rahul sir. Want to thank Rohit bhai for giving me a chance and allowing me to express myself. I have been working for this. Just want to follow my discipline and process. It is a really special moment. When I was young, wanted to play for the country and do something special. This is just a start and I need continue like this. A lot of people have helped me through my journey so far. Want to thank each and everyone. I was talking with Rohit bhai while batting and it was tremendous. I learnt a lot from him and Virat bhai

What a thoroughly convincing performance from India as they thrash West Indies by an innings and runs to go 1-0 in the two match Test series. Ravichandran Ashwin was again the wrecker in cheif in the second innings, bagging his 34th fifer and negating the West Indies top order and the lower order. On a pitch that assisted the spinners right from Day 1, the Indian spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were just too good for them. West Indies were just 2 down at the end of the 2nd session and it looked like they would atleast the game to Day 4.
However, it wasn't the case as wickets kept falling at regular intervals as the Indian spinners were just too good. Ashwin bagged the wicket of Jermaine Blackwood with a one turning in and struck him right in front of the stumps. Reifer departed soon after as Jadeja managed to grip one into the left-hander and it was an easy catch for the short-leg fielder. Alick Athanaze and Joshua Da Silva did show some resolute defence and good technique but with the ball turning a bit too much it was always going to be one ball which had their name on it.
Da Silva was struck right in front by a good delivery from Mohammed Siraj which tailed back in sharply. Alick Athanaze again made a good account of himself and scored a 44 ball 28 which included 5 delectable boundaries. He looked in great touch and at one stage it looked along with Jason Holder he would ensure West Indies bat the day out. However, it wasn't to be as the re-introduction of Ashwin brought about his downfall as he inside-edged one straight to the short-leg fielder.
Alzarri Joseph chanced his arm around for a few big shots but had to depart going for one more. Rakheem Cornwall too fell prey to Ashwin and it was the spin wizard who bagged the wickets of Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican to hand India a mammoth victory. India dominated the game right from Day 1 as riding on Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja, the duo bagged 8 wickets between them as West Indies were bowled out for 150 in the first innings.
India just showed immense discipline and the opening stand of Yasyasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma made all the difference. On a track which kept turning one after the other, both batters played for time and didn't do anything extravagant. They batted to the merit of each ball and shared a massive 200+ stand to take a clear ascendancy in the game. Both Jaiswal and Rohit scored centuries but the Indian skipper couldn't quite carry on after the century.
Jaiswal batted all through Day 2 and was only dismissed after a well crafted 171. He took his time but made everyone aware of his hunger for big scores in the longest format. Virat Kohli struggled at the beginning but did well to score a well compiled 76. Jadeja struck some impressive shots as Rohit Sharma eventually declared the innings with the lead reading 271 runs. In the end, it was a huge lead and India returned comfortable winners.
Warrican has taken the review but this should be the end of the day. Was there any glove involved? No flat line. Ball tracking coming up and it's three Reds. That's the end of the game.
