‘Glenn Maxwell’ IPL teams from 2012-24
Hailed as the 'Big Show' for his 360-degree strokeplay and fearless hitting, Glenn Maxwell's IPL career has been quite an enigma so far, notwithstanding his recent emergence at RCB. Maxwell was roped in by the Delhi Daredevils (Capitals) as a replacement player for Travis Birt in 2012, but it was in the following year that he stormed into the limelight after becoming a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise.Though he featured in just 3 games for MI (scored 36 runs), his stocks at the international and franchise level kept rising, and in 2014, he was eventually bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 6 crores. It is at the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) where Maxwell experienced the zenith as well as the nadir. He started with a blockbuster 2014 season where he became the toast of the town after he smashed 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75.
However, Maxwell flattered to deceive in the following seasons, managing just 145 and 179 runs in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, he was bestowed with leadership duties midway through the season, and while he did have a decent time with the bat- 310 runs @ 31/173.18, his captaincy left a lot to be desired. Maxwell was eventually released by PBKS ahead of the 2018 mega auction. He returned home to Delhi Daredevils (Capitals), but once again flattered to deceive with the bat.He pulled out of the 2019 season in a bid to focus on the 50-over World Cup, but returned to the auction in grand style, with his former franchise, PBKS shelling out a mind-numbing INR 10.75 Crores for his services. However, it proved to be a disastrous call as Maxwell endured a horrific season with the bat, managing just 108 runs in 11 innings @15.42/101.8 without a single six in the entire season. But, just as everyone thought that the Aussie swashbuckler was done for good in the IPL, the Virat Kohli-led RCB roped him in by belting out INR 14.25 crores for him. And, this time, the deal proved to be a masterstroke as Maxwell finally turned up with the bat, scoring 513 runs in 14 innings @ 42.75/141.10 with six 50+ scores. As a result, he was one of the three players to be retained by RCB ahead of the 2022 mega-auction. Maxwell had a mediocre 2022 season, even though he scored 301 runs @ a strike rate of 169.10. In the 2023 IPL, he scored 400 runs with a glorious strike rate of 183.49.
