Shubman Gill shot to prominence during the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was the highest run-getter for India (372 runs at 124.00) in their victorious campaign. Gill reaped rewards for his stellar performance with the bat as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought his services in the 2018 IPL auction for INR 1.8 crore against his base price of INR 20 lakh. The classic opener has been named as the skipper of the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024 after their former captain Hardik Pandya was traded to the Mumbai Indians in a historic all-cash deal.

Shubman Gill IPL Teams from 2018-24
Shubman Gill’s initial years in the IPL did not prove his caliber as a batter as the Punjabi cricketer did not get into the groove. Gill didn't have any fixed batting position in his first two years in the IPL. He batted in various slots from opening to No.7 and the outcome wasn't fruitful either for the franchise or the player.
Gill was cemented in the opener's role since IPL 2020 by KKR and since then he has returned with promising figures, scoring more than 400 runs in his last three seasons. After playing four seasons for KKR from 2018 to 2021, Gill was released by the franchise along with many players ahead of the mega IPL auction in 2022.
Gill was the third player in the draft pick of new IPL entrants Gujarat Titans. The CVC Capitals-owned franchise signed the young Indian opener for INR 8 crore. The prodigious batter scored 483 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 132.33 in the Titans' title-winning season on debut year. Gill smashed four half-centuries but missed the three-figure mark against Punjab Kings as he was dismissed on 96 by Kagiso Rabada.
Gill was among the 18 players to get a retention contract by the Titans ahead of the IPL auction 2023. Shubman Gill had a stellar IPL season in 2023, with the opener amassing 890 runs in 17 matches, with 3 centuries, and won the Orange Cap in the process as well.

Gill was retained by the Titans for INR 8 crores ahead of the 2024 IPL auction.
