A bowler's biggest achievement on the field is to bag five wickets in an innings in any format of the game. A World Cup five-wicket haul is a cherry on the cake in his career at any stage.
Only seven bowlers in the history of the World Cup have accounted for two or more five-wicket hauls with Australian pacer Mitchell Starc having taken three.
Former Australian pacer Gary Gilmour played just two World Cup matches in his career and picked fifers in both the innings in the 1975 World Cup.
Rules for Most 5-wicket haul in 2023 World Cup
The bowler who ends up with most five or more than five wickets in an innings will top the list in the World Cup for most 5-wicket hauls. In case two bowlers have the same number of fifers in the tournament then the one who played less matches has the upper hand.
Even if the matches and fifers happen to be the same then their best bowling figures shall be considered in such scenarios.
