The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will soon be writing its 13th chapter across the length and breadth of India.
The ICC World Cup 2023 will kick start on October 05 in Ahmedabad, when defending champions England lock horns with New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 final.
The World Cup is expected to be a run fest considering the conditions and the quality of batsmanship these days. This will make the role of imapct bowlers even more crucial.
Taking wickets in a heap goes a long way in tilting the balance of the game in your sides' favour.
Over the years, we have witnessed plenty of world-class bowlers do the same with regularity at the grandest stage of them all: the ICC Cricket World Cup.
The latest chapter of the quadrennial event is all set to play out across the length and breadth of India between October 05-November 19, and champion bowlers from all over the world are gearing up in order to showcase their talent.
Taking 4 wickets or more in an ODI is an incredible feat given the batting friendly nature of the surfaces and the fact that one has only 10 overs to achieve the feat.
Legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne leads the list when it comes to bagging the most number of 4-wicket-hauls in World Cup history.
Warne claimed as many as 4 four-wickets-hauls from just 17 innings in the marquee event. The most astonishing fact is that 3 out of those 4-fors came in knockout games- 1996 semi-final v West Indies (4/36) & 1999 semi-final v South Africa (4/29) & 1999 final v Pakistan (4/33).
South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir has also taken 4 four-wicket-hauls in his World Cup career, as did Muttiah Muralidaran.
While Tahir took 21 innings, Murali achieved the feat in 39 innings.
The fast bowling quartet of Mohammed Shami (3 in 11 innings), Michell Johnson (3 in 15 innings), Mitchell Starc (3 in 18 innings) and Trent Boult (3 in 19 innings) have 3 apiece.
Interestingly, Starc also has 3 five-wicket-hauls in ODI World Cups, which makes him the only bowler to take 4+ wicket-hauls a whopping six times. The champion left-arm seamer will look to add a few more to his tally in the forthcoming edition.
