Gerald Coetzee, born on 2 October 2000 in South Africa, is considered one of the leading fast bowlers of South Africa’s National Team. Gerald Coetzee had participated in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. Gerald Coetzee Career
Gerald Coetzee was first spotted in the U-19 World Cup 2018 where at the age of 17 he was one of the key performers for the South African U-19 team in the tournament. Coetzee started his domestic career on 14 October 2018 in the SA Provincial ODI Challenge, which was a List A tournament, where he performed well in the first match, taking 5 wickets in 10 overs with an economy of 3.30, but was unlucky since then he failed to take his team to the threshold of victory.
The following year, on 12 April 2019, Coetzee debuted for the Knights in the SA T20 Challenge where he took two wickets in four overs. He made his first-class debut on 7 October 2019 against the Knights in the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series. Next year at the age of 19, Gerald again was included in the South Africa U-19 team in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he got to play only 2 games.
Gerald was included in the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 as a replacement for Liam Livingstone, but he got the opportunity to play his first IPL match for Mumbai Indians in 2024. Gerald has also participated in the Major League Cricket and SA20.
Gerald Coetzee Domestic Career
Gerald Coetzee made his domestic debut in List A cricket for Free State and in first-class cricket for Knights. He made his List A debut for Free State in the SA Provincial ODI Challenge on 14 October 2018, where he bowled brilliantly and took 5 wickets. In the next four bounds, Gerald could take only five wickets, and in his debut tournament, he managed to take 10 wickets after playing five games. Next year, Gerald made his debut in first-class cricket for the Knights in the 4-Day Franchise Series and impressed everyone in the first match by taking a total of 6 wickets.
Coetzee, who took 17 wickets in four matches at an economy of 2.83, was the third-highest wicket-taker for his team in the tournament and the 14th overall. Along with the ball, he also showed his talent with the bat and scored 126 runs in four matches at 63.00, in which he also scored a half-century.
Gerald has played a total of 21 matches in his first-class career so far, in which he has taken 67 wickets in 35 innings and has also scored 369 runs, while in List A career, he has played a total of 28 matches and has taken 56 wickets in 27 innings. Has has also scored 241 runs in 15 innings with the bat.

Gerald Coestzee IPL and other Franchise Cricket
Gerald Coetzee's name came up in the IPL for the first time in 2021 when he was included in the team by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Liam Livingstone but unfortunately, he could not play a single match for the year.
After 2 years, in the 2023 IPL auction, Gerald came at a base price of Rs 2 crore and was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 5 crore, and the next year in 2024 he was seen bowling for MI. Gerald took 13 wickets in 10 games, in which his best bowling performance came against Delhi Capitals on 7 April 2024 at Wankhede ground where he sent four batsmen including Rishabh Pant to the pavilion for just 34 runs.
In SA20 Gerald made his debut for the Joburg Super Kings in 2023. In his first match against MI Cape Town, he took two wickets for 24 runs at an economy of six in four overs. Coetzee showed excellent performance in this tournament by dismissing 17 players in nine innings and was the third most successful bowler of the maiden season. In the 2024 edition, he was not seen playing due to injury.
Apart from IPL and SA20, Gerald Coetzee also plays for Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket which takes place in America. The first season of this league was held in 2023, the first match was played between Texas Super Kings and Los Angeles Knight Riders. In this match, Gerald took two wickets for 22 runs in two overs.
If we talk about the entire tournament, the South African bowler had taken eight wickets in five matches at an economy of 8.40 and was the second most successful bowler for Texas Super Kings.
Gerald Coetzee International Career
Gerald Coetzee started his international career with a Test match against West Indies on 2 March 2023 in Centurion, but even before that, in June 2022, he was named in South Africa’s T20I team for the England tour, unfortunately, he did not get the opportunity to play there. In his short career span, Gerald has managed to make his debut in all three formats and carve out a prominent place in the team with his extraordinary performances.
Gerald's ODI debut also took place in the same series in which he made his Test debut but he had to wait for almost 5 months to play his first T20 match. Gerald played his first T20 International on 30th August 2023 against Australia at Durban.

Test Career
Gerald Coetzee started his international career with the Test match played against West Indies in Centurion from 28th April to 2nd March 2023 where he bowled 18 overs in both the innings and took three wickets. In the next match of this series, Gerald made an excellent comeback and took three wickets each in both innings.
Gerald Cardia has played only three matches in his Test career so far and has taken 10 wickets in six innings of these games. Cardia played his last Test match against India on 26 December 2023 at Super Sports Park where he took only one wicket in the form of Mohammed Siraj.
ODI Career
Gerald Coetzee started his ODI career in the same series in which he played his first international match in a Test setup. Gerald made his ODI debut in the South Africa vs West Indies match played on 18 March 2023 and in his first match, bowling sharply, he dismissed three leading West Indian batters including Nicholas Pooran and Rowman Powell in 10 overs.
The biggest milestone in Gerald Coetzee's ODI career came when he was included in South Africa's team for the 2023 ICC World Cup. In this tournament, South Africa was eliminated after losing to Australia in the semi-finals. On one hand, South Africa's leading batsman Quinton de Kock played an important role in helping the South African team reach the semi-finals, while on the other hand, Gerald along with senior batter Quinton De Kock contributed enough by taking 20 scalps in eight games.
