View AllBest Economy in Cricket World Cup
A team needs gun bowlers who cannot only strike at regular wickets but also contain runs throughout their spell. Bowlers who promise economical benefits can add pressure on the opponents, especially during low-scoring games.
Bowlers need to have multiple plans with them during crunch situations in order to control the flow of runs from the other side. The norm is continuous dot balls often force the batters to throw their wickets and here's where smart bowlers can change the course of the game.
Any bowler would have the urge to create fear in each of the batters' minds apart from the ones in his team. Let's understand how an economy rate works in the game of cricket.
Rules for best economy rate in World Cup 2023
The bowler's economy rate is defined as the average number of runs conceded per over bowled by an individual. The lower the economy rate is, the bowler's performance gets better.
Just to make it clear, the number of wickets taken by a bowler in an innings has no role to play in determining the economy rate. There is no rule that guarantees better economy if a bowler rolls their arm for more overs. The equation of conceding less runs is instrumental here.
For instance, if Keshav Maharaj gives 33 runs from 9.1 overs then his economy is 3.6 (33/9.1) On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi concedes 23 runs from five overs but has a inferior economy (4.6) than Maharaj because of the former's average runs conceded are more in this case.
The overall economy of all bowlers, including the part-timers, is determined at the conclusion of the tournament. The total number of runs leaked will be simply divided by the total number of overs bowled. The semi-final and final game will also be considered along with all the round-robin fixtures.
