
Shane Lowry is an Irish professional golfer born on April 2, 1987. Before turning pro, Lowry attended the Athlone Institute of Technology and won five amateur titles between 2007 and 2009. He represented Ireland in the European Boys' Team Championship and the European Youths' Team Championship in 2005 and 2006, respectively. He also participated in the Eisenhower Trophy and the Bonallack Trophy in 2008, among others. In 2009, he won his first professional event, the 3 Irish Open, while still playing as an amateur on the European Tour.
Lowry turned professional in 2009 and has won seven professional events, including six on the European Tour, as of March 2025. His wins include the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the 2019 Open Championship. Lowry's father, Brendan, is a retired Irish Gaelic footballer. He was born in Ferbane, County Offaly, Ireland, on July 19, 1959. In the 1982 All-Ireland Football Championship final, which also included his two brothers, Mick and Sean, he scored three points to win the title for Offaly, according to the Irish Mirror.
