That will be all from the opening game of CPL 2024. If this was anything to go by, we have a terrific season lying ahead. This is Dwaipayan Mukherjee, signing off with Lavil Saldanha. We will see you soon.
Andre Fletcher | St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Captain : Will say we had soft dismissals. We took the game away from them in phases and brought them back in, that's something we have to look at. If we want to challenge for the title, we got to be more clinical in our approach and not give away so many let-offs. In the powerplay anything can happen, the game actually starts after the powerplay. That's why brought in Shamsi and they (spinners) pegged them back. I want us to be positive and at the same time we have to be smart, enjoy each other's success and once we do that, we have the personnel to win. I strongly believe we can deliver the goods, more often than not.
Chris Green | ABF captain: We were 10-15 short on a good surface. That did cost us. We had a great start with the bat in the powerplay but we scored just 14 runs off the next four overs which really proved to be a pivotal deceleration given how the match panned out eventually, really proud of the way we fought in the backend. Here we had to use the dimensions and the breeze, Mayers batted really deep for them and he is a good player and we were way behind and we nearly pulled a rabbit out of the hat. That is something that we can take heart from [on Jewel Andrew] He is 17 years old and he is a local icon, really impressed, to bat the way with that confidence and swagger it is awesome to see. This is what leagues like these do. Provide a platform for players like him to shine. He will only go from strength to strength. Shamar Springer has improved again from last season. Incredible in the field too.
Kyle Mayers is the player of the match. Here is what he has to say: It was nailbiting in the end and the game went close. It was close and were all patient. My mindset was simple to stay in the middle for as long as possible. I just though that the breeze was there so tried to take on the advantage. Unfortunately I was dismissed later. Enjoying time in new colours, it has been great
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (164 for 9) defeat Antigua and Barbuda Falcons (163 for 4) by 1 wicket.

ONLY THE SECOND TIME IN CPL HISTORY THAT A SIDE HAS WON BY A MARGIN OF 1 WICKET. THE FIRST TIME WE SAW IT HAPPEN IN THIS COMPETITION WAS BACK IN 2014.
We can hardly believe what we saw but let us take you through the events of this pulsating chase. This was Evan Lewis' 10th consecutive season with St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and he made a bright start against Amir with a six and a four in the early stages of the innings at a time when the Pakistan pacer really made some use of the assistance from the surface.
In the battle of one captain going against another, Chris Green dropped a tough caught and bowled opportunity against Fletcher. That let off really flicked a switched in the batting style of Fletcher who went on to attack Imad Wasim in a proactive manner in the very next over but it was the Pakistani spinner who had the last laugh. It was a fiery battle and the spinner reinforced the skill that he had, also letting Fletcher know of his pleasure.
The loss of Lewis got Stubbs to the crease as Mayers began briskly with some shots that ensured his team remained in the hunt in terms of the scoring rate at the halfway mark. But having dismissed Stubbs as well, the Patriots would have started to believe that they were ahead in the game. Similar to what had happened when the Falcons batted earlier in the day, there was a passage of play between the 9th and 12th over for 21 balls where even the Patriots failed to find the boundary ropes.
Odean Smith found the right rhythm that was taking his side through the middle overs in a manner which would have only helped their cause when the death overs arrived. The great thing about the stand between him and Mayers was how they never allowed the run rate to soar uncontrollably. But Springer made Smith his 3rd victim of the night. Springer dismissed Rossouw for a golden duck as Drakes denied a hattrick opportunity.
There were dropped catches, 16 runs from the first 3 balls of the 16th over with Amir exchanging words with Mayers. But Springer continued effecting the game with a sensational catch to send back Mayers as Amir was thrilled to bits. This game had multiple see-saw junctions and at the end, you just could not have predicted the result.
All 3 results were possible when 1 run was needed from 1 ball with 1 wicket in hand but Patriots would be absolutely glad to get the job done. Presentations to follow soon.

19.6 Roshon Primus to Anrich Nortje, ONE RUN! ST. KITTS AND NEVIS PATRIOTS WIN! Length delivery on the line of the off stump, Nortje hits it down the ground and runs hard to complete their most chastened run. A win for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots who win by 1 wicket and start their tournament on a winning note
1 run needed from 1 ball - can you believe this?
19.5 Roshon Primus to Anrich Nortje, SCORES LEVEL! BRILLIANT RUNNING BETWEEN THE WICKETS FROM NORTJE! Full and outside the off stump, Nortje cuts and cuts it hard and gets a single and runs back even harder and picks up a brace
3 runs needed from 2 balls and we have 1 wicket remaining.
