So, that will be it from this, the Colombo-leg of the LPL, 2023. A couple of days later, the action moves to Kandy. Do not forget to join us for that as we gear up for more exciting matches from this high-voltage T20 league. For now, this is the pair of Pradeep and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Dasun Shanaka [Galle Titans captain]: (First thoughts) Very happy! The batting unit showed how to bat on this wicket. (On the batting approach of his team) Tim Seifert and Shakib Al Hasan have shown how to operate in the middle with the bat, having played such a lot of cricket around the world. This is something that the young players need to learn from. (On bringing in Richard Ngarava today and him making an instant impact) It is great to have bowlers like Richard Ngarava at our disposal, but, we want to pick the best team possible according to the conditions.
Wanindu Hasaranga [B-Love Kandy captain]: We haven't played our best cricket in the tournament yet, we should go back to drawing board and see what went wrong. All the three departments we failed to do well in both the games, lost crucial wickets inside the powerplay is always a problem. No pressure, at the moment we have nothing to lose and one good come back is all we need.
Tim Seifert is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: Got off the plane yesterday morning before the game, it's nice to grab my feet and feel the condition and moving to different place, it's time to reassess again. Just wanted to be positive, keep the momentum, put the same bowler under pressure, they have got some quality spinners and kept rotating the strike. Enjoying the league, two in two, hopefully continues.
Galle Titans win by 83 runs with 17 balls to spare!
Tim Seifert 74 (39) | Tabraiz Shamsi - 2/20 (4) Ashen Bandara 27 (19) | Mohammad Hasnain - 1/26 (4)
181 was always going to be hard to get to, but, the batting effort from Kandy, whether from, the youngsters or from the experienced players, was far from good. And so, there is absolutely no need to be surprised by them unable to reach even three figures before getting bowled out.
On the other end of the spectrum, a spectacular start with pace on from Kasun Rajitha and Richard Ngarava got well backed up by Lahiru Samarakoon. Then came the spinners and everything turned further south for the Kandy batters. The wile and guile of Tabraiz Shamsi, Shakib Al Hasan and Akila Dananjaya was just too much to handle!
Skipper Dasun Shanaka, who bowled brilliantly yesterday to prize out three key wickets, did not have to bring himself on to bowl today. The only slip-up from Galle can be said to be the misfields and the drop catches that should not have been, given the standards this team generally sets.
So, with two wins out of two on what were difficult pitches to bat on, Galle Titans go top of the table with 4 points. As for B-Love Kandy, it will be about getting back to the drawing board and coming out with a performance of substance after back-to-back losses.
17.1 Akila Dananjaya to Mohammad Hasnain, OUT! UP IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Galle Titans make it two in two, Kandy on the other hand slump into two defeats in a row. Galle Titans absolutely thump Kandy tonight who have been shambles all night. Length delivery on the stumps, Hasnain sits on one knee to slog sweep but has skied it and the fielder at covers takes a sitter.
Mohammad Hasnain c Kasun Rajitha b Akila Dananjaya 0 (6b, 0x4, 0x6)
So, with three overs left, Kandy are three short of three figures. Will they be able to get there? The other question is, who will get the ball to try and pick up that last wicket, first?
