So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj and my co-commentator, Probuddha. Do stay tuned to our coverage with a lot more cricketing action coming today including the ENG v WI Test, the LPL Qualifier 2, the Women's Asia Cup and so much more. Until next time, it is a warm goodbye.
Steven Smith (Washington Freedom captain): We are just getting better and better. Travis Head has been unbelievable for us on such slow wickets. Jasdeep, Lockie, Marco have all been very good. Just training very hard. Everyone is training in the positions or scenarios they might come in. He has exceeded expectations. Picked up big wickets again. Stuck to his plans and executed what we wanted him to. He has got a nice bright future.
Faf du Plessis (Texas Super Kings captain): Obviously, they did really well in the Powerplay. Travis Head put us under pressure early on. It looked like they will get to 220 but we restricted them a little bit. We got a good start in the chase but lost wickets in clusters. Until that point, thought we were well in the game. Resources-wise, we don't have guys who can bowl 140-145 KPH. Although Maxi is a good player of spin, Noor Ahmad is as good as a spinner can be against any batter. (About the middle-order not turning up) You are one innings away from being confident. Luckily, we have gone well until now. Got one more match against Orcas where hopefully the middle-order can get some confidence. It is about rhythm. You have got to cash in. When you are in form, there is a responsibility to cash in. Hopefully, it can continue.
Jasdeep Singh (Player of the Match): The emotions are pretty high to be honest. I am just enjoying myself and expressing myself. I did not have the idea that I will be here two weeks here. The support staff is excellent and (Steve Smith) Smudge and Ferguson are also brilliant they keep backing me. The wicket as a bit too paced. Faf was going well. At that stage going off-pace was probably the right thing to do. I watched Lockie in the previous over and Smudge made it clear to me. It helped me a lot.
Travis Head (Washington Freedom): I just watch the ball and try to react to it. I try and stay calm. For the last few innings the momentum is with me and I am doing my job at the top of the order. If the wicket allows me to go hard, I will go hard. The wicket was good in the initial stages. It would have taken a bit of spin later on so trie to get as many as possible in the powerplay. Will try and keep it relaxing. I have been doing this for the past two months and will look to do it again.
MATCH OVER!
Washington Freedom won by 42 runs!
Washington Freedom 206/5 (20) Texas Super Kings 164/10 (19.5)
Faf du Plessis 55 (32) | Calvin Savage 35* (22) Rachin Ravindra 3.5-0-16-4 | Jasdeep Singh 4-0-25-3
A convincing win for the Washington Freedom by 42 runs as they seal a Top 2 finish. The game was set up by the batters as they posted the highest total of 206/5 in MLC 2024. The TSK opening duo of Devon Conway and Faf du Plessis also came out positive but Glenn Maxwell trapped the former in front in the 4th over. du Plessis continued to bat positively with Aaron Hardie for company as they posted 76 runs in the Powerplay. Yet the game turned on its head in the eighth over after Jasdeep Singh dismissed Hardie with a short delivery. Joshua Tromp, du Plessis himself and Milind Kumar all departed soon as TSK were reduced to 105/5 after 12 overs out of nowhere. A few overs later, Jasdeep came back to dismiss Marcus Stoinis with Steven Smith taking a fantastic catch at long-off.
In the very next over, Dwayne Bravo was stumped off Maxwell's bowling as TSK seemed to be falling like a pack of cards. With the game seemingly out of reach, Calvin Savage and Mohammad Mohsin produced a few lusty blows. But Mohsin was eventually stumped off Maxwell's bowling too in the 18th overs. Eventually, Rachin Ravindra dismissed Noor Ahmad and Savage to end up with his best figures in T20 cricket.
20.0
19.5 Rachin Ravindra to Calvin Savage, APPEAL AND GIVEN!!!!! Full at the off stump. Savage looks to play the reverse sweep but misses and is hit on the pads. An appeal for the leg before and it is given. It is a fair delivery and no bat involved. The ball tracking shows three reds, it is OUT.
Calvin Savage lbw Rachin Ravindra 35 (23b, 2x4, 3x6)
19.4 Rachin Ravindra to Zia-ul-Haq, fuller length around off. Zia drives it down to long-off for a single.
