23:36 (IST)24 NOV 2024

A look back at what transpired on Day 1 of IPL Auction 2025

An absorbing day of action here at the Abady Al Johar Arena, Jeddah. With a total of 12 sets of players going under the hammer, we saw a lot of strategizing and bidding at the auction table by all 10 franchises. The day started off with two Team India players, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, eclipsing the past records with some record-breaking bids. Later on, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who got a jackpot bid from PBKS at the table worth ₹18 crores, with KL Rahul continuing his stay up north in the country, and representing Delhi Capitals next season.

Later on, it was Venkatesh Iyer who stole the thunder, with a huge bid worth ₹23.75 crores. Many teams were under the radar, with a few of them carrying out steals in the middle and picking up players at good prices. In the uncapped category, Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir and Rasikh Dar were a few of the big earners walking off with heavy pockets.

There were some other surprises too with CSK doubling their bid for Noor Ahmad and denying GT the chance to RTM him while the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Kartik Tyagi and IPL legend David Warner had no takers. They will be hopeful of some bids coming their way tomorrow in the accelerated round.

In total, teams have so far spent a good chunk of the total purse they had and will be back tomorrow to complete their squads. Lots more number-crunching to be done at their end and they're possibly in for another sleepless night ahead.

23:07 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Here's a look at the final set of the day, Uncapped Spin Bowlers 1:

Suyash Sharma - ₹2.60 Cr (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)
Karn Sharma - ₹0.50 Cr (Mumbai Indians)
Mayank Markande - ₹0.30 Cr (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Piyush Chawla - UNSOLD
Kumar Kartikeya - ₹0.30 Cr (Rajasthan Royals)
Manav Suthar - ₹0.30 Cr (Gujarat Titans)
Shreyas Gopal - UNSOLD

23:07 (IST)24 NOV 2024

End of Day 1 of the IPL Auction 2025

And with that, the auctioneer calls it a night for today. Proceedings will resume tomorrow!

23:06 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Another leggie - Shreyas Gopal, anyone?

MI to RR to SRH to MI again. That's been Shreyas Gopal's journey in the IPL. But his fate remains uncertain for the moment - Gopal is unsold!

23:05 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Okay, how about bids for Manav Suthar?

GT had him last year and they start the bidding straightaway. They could have one of the best domestic finger spinners today at base. And they do - GT buy back Suthar for ₹ 30 lakh!

23:04 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Kumar Kartikeya Singh is seeking a bid now.

A former MI player who can bowl left-arm finger spin and toss the leggie in too. Rajasthan Royals place a bid and could have their man. And indeed - Kartikeya heads to RR for ₹ 30 lakh!

23:03 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Veteran spinner Piyush Chawla is next.

He's had a couple of good years for MI. He's seeking an opening bid of ₹ 50 lakh but it isn't to be seen yet in the room. Not today at least - his name can be presented again in the accelerated round but for now, Chawla is unsold!

23:02 (IST)24 NOV 2024

How about bids for Mayank Markande?

He has played one T20 for India but it was well over five years ago and so, he qualifies as an uncapped player. But no bids yet...until KKR place an opening bid at ₹ 30 lakh. That could be it then. It is - but SRH have an RTM option. They are in a huddle but eventually turn it down. KKR bag Markande for ₹ 30 lakh!

23:01 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Karn Sharma is the next bowler up for bidding.

The lucky mascot who has won titles with three different teams. Does he have a taker? Oh he does - Mumbai Indians place an opening bid of ₹ 50 lakh and have their man for the same price! The Challengers have an RTM available but they turn it down.

22:57 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Uncapped spinners now. And first up is Suyash Sharma.

Delhi Capitals start the bidding process before RCB hop on themselves. Time for Mumbai Indians to target a leggie of their own though. And it shoots up to a crore with MI and RCB continuing to gun hard for that Indian leggie they so desperately need. Discussions at either table and the bids continue to move up to ₹ 2 crore. A few more and that is that - MI are out and Suyash Sharma has a new home in Bengaluru for ₹ 2.6 crore! It's followed by chants of 'RCB! RCB!' from their fans present at the arena!

22:56 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Players sold in the first set of uncapped pacers.

Rasikh Dar - ₹6 Cr (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Akash Madhwal - ₹1.20 Cr (Rajasthan Royals)
Mohit Sharma - ₹2.20 Cr (Delhi Capitals)
Vyshak Vijaykumar - ₹1.80 Cr (Punjab Kings)
Vaibhav Arora - ₹1.80 Cr (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Yash Thakur - ₹1.60 Cr (Punjab Kings)
Simarjeet Singh - ₹1.50 Cr (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

22:53 (IST)24 NOV 2024

And that leaves one more player in the set - Simarjeet Singh.

The Delhi speedster was a Super King for the last three seasons. And CSK go up immediately before SRH jump in. Ah, the MRC Nagar Derby! Both teams are at it and swiftly take it up to ₹ 1 crore. A few more bids and Chennai are out...only to return with another bid. SRH up the price again though and CSK are out. SRH take Simarjeet Singh at ₹ 1.5 crore!

22:53 (IST)24 NOV 2024

The penultimate player in this set is Kartik Tyagi.

A former U19 sensation and one of the quicker bowlers in the country. No bids at all at ₹ 40 lakh. And this is a shock, it must be said - Kartik Tyagi is unsold!

22:50 (IST)24 NOV 2024

The next pacer out of the hat is Yash Thakur!

Punjab and GT get involved in the bidding process. And the bid moves up to ₹ 1 crore. Gujarat give it some thought before upping the stakes again. But they're eventually out of the reckoning and Punjab Kings sign Yash Thakur for ₹ 1.6 crore!

22:46 (IST)24 NOV 2024

This should be fun - Vaibhav Arora is up!

And immediately, the paddle goes up on the KKR table. RR jump in too and the bids swiftly move up in excess of a crore. RR are out and the Knights almost have their man...only for the Royals to request for a bit of time and raise the paddle. We go again. Delhi replace the Royals now though with KKR staunch on wanting to get their player back. Just the one bid from DC and they're out. KKR snatch Vaibhav for ₹ 1.8 crore!

22:43 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Vijaykumar Vyshak of Karnataka is next.

He was part of the Indian squad that toured South Africa recently. And the Sunrisers start the bidding before GT jump in. A new bidder next with Punjab Kings showing interest. Slow progress and it stands at ₹ 70 lakh. But it moves along faster now and the Titans are out at ₹ 1.8 crore. RCB also decline the offer to match the bid via an RTM and Vyshak heads to Punjab for ₹ 1.8 crore!

22:38 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Mohit Sharma returns to the Delhi Capitals!

The man who scripted a famous fairytale story in IPL 2023 with his impeccable death bowling. Any takers today? Yup, GT and DC jump in - both teams he has represented in the past. It's over a crore again and both franchises stick at it. Gujarat ask for a moment to ponder over this. They raise the bid once again and Delhi are out. Now Punjab ask for a moment to think but they don't bid - Delhi do though as they pull off a bit of an RKO and enter the fray again. More discussion on the GT table. A long discussion later, they bail out. Mohit Sharma heads to the Capitals for ₹ 2.2 crore!

22:34 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Next up is Akash Madhwal of Uttarakhand.

He was with MI for the last three seasons but it's Rajasthan Royals who start the bidding process. Punjab show their interest too and the paddles go up on either table. Up to ₹ 80 lakh with the Royals and over a crore now. PBKS are out before there's a discussion on the DC table. No bids though - Rajasthan Royals secure Madhwal for ₹ 1.2 crore!

22:30 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Time for some pacers. This is going to be fun...

And let's get started with Rasikh Dar Salam. He was brilliant at the Emerging T20 Asia Cup recently. RCB start the bidding before SRH add some spice with their own bids. A South Indian derby unfolds for the man from Jammu & Kashmir and the bid goes above ₹ 1 crore. Make that ₹ 2 crore and this could be a real steal for RCB with SRH backing out. The player is sold but DC exercise their RTM. The Challengers converge before placing a bid of...well it's taking a lot of time at their end but they eventually place a bid of ₹ 6 crore. Lots of thinking now at the Capitals table...they're thinking and thinking...and at last, decide against matching that bid. RCB bag Rasikh Dar for ₹ 6 crore!

22:30 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Here's a summary of Uncapped Wicket-Keepers Set 1:

Kumar Kushagra - ₹0.65 Cr (Gujarat Titans)
Robin Minz - ₹0.65 Cr (Mumbai Indians)
Anuj Rawat - ₹0.30 Cr (Gujarat Titans)
Aryan Juyal - ₹0.30 Cr (Lucknow Super Giants)
Upendra Yadav - UNSOLD
Luvnith Sisodia - UNSOLD
Vishnu Vinod - ₹0.95 Cr (Punjab Kings)

22:24 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Okay then - Vishnu Vinod time!

Expect a fair few bids now. Surely? KKR go up with the paddle. PBKS want a second and they respond with a bid of their own. Long discussion amongst the Knight Riders' think-tank and they raise the bid again. Punjab respond themselves before KKR quit but in jump the Mumbai Indians. And we finally see things speed up just a bit. MI are out after some contemplation and Vishnu Vinod heads to Punjab for ₹ 95 lakh.

22:23 (IST)24 NOV 2024

How about bids for Luvnith Sisodia?

The dashing wicket-keeper batter from Karnataka was once part of RCB. But alas, there is no interest in the room. Sisodia is unsold!

22:23 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Upendra Yadav is out of the bag now.

He has played for India A and has been part of SRH too. But unfortunately, he has no takers just yet. He's unsold!

22:22 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Aryan Juyal, captain of Uttar Pradesh, is up next.

His form is such that we could see a bidding war for him. LSG get proceedings started. A backup for Rishabh Pant perhaps? But wow, there just isn't any other interest in the room and that is all she wrote. Juyal heads to Lucknow for his base price of ₹ 30 lakh.

22:20 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Next up is Anuj Rawat of Delhi.

A former RCB and RR player. No bids yet for him though...scratch that, GT hop in. And that'll be all - Anuj Rawat goes at base to GT for ₹ 30 lakh. RCB have an RTM and there's a brief discussion on the table before they decline the offer.

22:19 (IST)24 NOV 2024

From one Jharkhand keeper to another, it's time for Robin Minz.

And it's CSK who go for him again before MI jump in. This is exactly how the bidding war started for Minz last year. 'El Clasico' time folks! Just for a little while again and CSK are out. Mumbai Indians nab Robin Minz at ₹ 65 lakh!

22:17 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Time for some uncapped wicket-keepers now...

And first up comes Kumar Kushagra. He went for a bounty last year with CSK one of the interested teams. They've raised the paddle again and almost have him at base...but Punjab raise the paddle after some thought. Just a couple more bids before they quit and Gujarat jump in. It continues for a little while before the Super Kings quit. Kushagra heads to GT for ₹ 65 lakh. DC decline the RTM option!

22:16 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Players sold in Uncapped All-Rounders Set 1

Nishant Sindhu - ₹ 0.30 Cr (Gujarat Titans)
Sameer Rizvi - ₹ 0.95 Cr (Delhi Capitals)
Naman Dhir - ₹ 5.25 Cr (Mumbai Indians)
Abdul Samad - ₹ 4.20 Cr (Lucknow Super Giants)
Harpreet Brar - ₹ 1.50 Cr (Punjab Kings)
Vijay Shankar - ₹ 1.20 Cr (Chennai Super Kings)
Mahipal Lomror - ₹ 1.70 Cr (Gujarat Titans)
Ashutosh Sharma - ₹ 3.80 Cr (Delhi Capitals)

22:15 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Utkarsh Singh is the last name out of the hat

And he goes unsold, with no interest from anyone at the auction table

22:09 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Ashutosh Sharma is up next. He will be in the Capitals side next season

The all rounder, who set the stage alight last season, is out of the hat, and RCB raises the paddle for him, with a bid followed soon by Rajasthan Royals. RCB have the bid at ₹90 lakh before DC enters the race and puts in their first bid for the player. RCB take a moment, with the bid reading at ₹1.50cr with DC. RCB have pulled out of the bidding, and PBKS enters to get their former player back. The bids go past the ₹2cr mark, with both PBKS and DC still in the race. Delhi leads the race with ₹3.40 cr, with Punjab putting in another bid of ₹3.60cr. Delhi puts in a bid of ₹3.80cr and that is the winning bid. Ashutosh moves to Delhi for IPL 2025

22:06 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Hard hitting Mahipal Lomror is up next. He is a Titan for the upcoming season!

GT and RR show an interest in the former RCB all-rounder, and the bids continue to rise for him. ₹1cr mark is breached by the Rajasthan Royals, with neither side looking to stop. Gujarat Giants have the winning bid at ₹1.70cr. RCB are asked whether they would like to exercise their RTM option and they decide against it. Mahipal heads Gujarat for the upcoming IPL season

22:03 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Vijay Shankar's name is out of the hat. He heads back home to Chennai

CSK and GT put in a series of bids for the all rounder. The bidding goes past the ₹1cr mark and at ₹1.20 cr, GT asks for some time in the middle. They decide to pull the plug on bidding for the player and Vijay Shankar heads to Chepauk for ₹1.20 cr

22:00 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Harpreet Brar is the next name. He continues to be a Punjabi Munda!

LSG raise their paddle for the Punjab all-rounder and PBKS are the next to raise their paddle for the player. Both teams are involved in a bidding war yet again, with Punjab currently having the bidding at ₹1.10cr. Mumbai Indians raise their paddle in time and bid for the player, before pulling the plug at bidding for him. Punjab Kings buy back their former player at ₹1.50cr!

21:55 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Abdul Samad's name is out of the hat now! He heads north to Lucknow

RCB and LSG show interest in the player and a bidding war begins for Abdul Samad. The bids go past ₹1 crore for him, with neither team deciding to back down. RCB backs out but PBKS enters the race and put in a series of bids, with the bidding going past ₹2cr now. PBKS and LSG continue to go hard for the player, raising their paddles and bumping the bids, with the bids now going past ₹4cr. PBKS pulls out of the race and LSG acquire the player at ₹4.20cr. SRH are asked if they want to exercise their RTM card but they decide against it

21:50 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Naman Dhir is up next. He is an MI player again!

And his former team, Mumbai Indians, raise the paddle for him. RCB follow suit and raise the paddle for the player. Swiftly, the bidding goes past the ₹1cr mark, with Mumbai Indians having the upper hand with a bid of ₹1.20 cr. Delhi enter the race and bid for the player. With the bidding at ₹1.60 cr in favour of MI, DC takes some time and decides to raise the paddle. The bidding reaches the ₹2cr mark with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals withdrawing. Rajasthan Royals enter the fray, with Mumbai Indians exiting from the bidding war. PBKS enter and make a series of bids. Rajasthan Royals have the final bid at ₹3.40 cr and that is the winning bid. MI execute their RTM card and Rajasthan bid ₹5.25 cr, which is accepted by the Mumbai Indians!

21:47 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Sameer Rizvi, former CSK man, is up next

CSK open the bidding for their former player at his base price. Delhi Capitals raise the paddle after a while. Both teams go back and forth to acquire the services of the player and Delhi have the bid at ₹95 lakh. Delhi acquire the player at ₹ 95 lakh. That's a serious steal considering the talent Rizvi possesses but it is a steep fall from the ₹ 8.4 crore bid he fetched last year.

21:45 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Uncapped All rounders Set 1 is underway. Nishant Sindhu is the first name

Gujarat Titans raise the paddle for the player, with the Titans acquiring the player for his base price of ₹30 lakh

21:43 (IST)24 NOV 2024

CSK and SRH go head on for Abhinav Manohar

CSK and SRH go against each other, with SRH having the bid at ₹2.80 cr. KKR enters the race after a bit of drama and bids ₹3 cr for the player. After a short pause, SRH put in a bid and raises it up to ₹3.20 cr. That will be that as SRH secure the services of the Karnataka batter for ₹3.2 cr

21:40 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Abhinav Manohar is the next player

RCB raise the paddle for the local lad, with CSK raising the paddle soon after. Both teams are in a bidding war, with the bid going past ₹1 cr. RCB pulls out but Gujarat enters the race for their former player. The bids continue to rise rapidly, with the current bid reading ₹1.90 cr with CSK. Titans round it up to ₹2 crore, and CSK places a bid for ₹2.20 cr, with GT withdrawing. SRH enters the race now, the fourth team involved for this player and raises it up to ₹2.40 crore.

21:36 (IST)24 NOV 2024

Yash Dhull, the Men's U19 WC Winning Captain, is out of the hat next

Sadly for him, there are no takers in the room and he goes UNSOLD!
