Where did Deebo Samuel go to college?

Deebo Samuel is an American Football player who currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. Samuel is in his fifth year in the league and is the 49ers' current number-one wide receiver. However, he has dual duties as he is used as an important piece in their running back room as well, something that is very rarely seen in the professional league.

Samuel’s game has brought about a new dimension to the 49ers' offense as they can use him in more ways than one. Although he is primarily a wide receiver, San Francisco has made good use of his rushing abilities especially when their primary running back has suffered injuries or time away from the game.

Samuel is a native of South Carolina having been born and brought up there. He attended Chapman High School in Inman, South Carolina where he played as a wide receiver as well as a running back. With 166 catches for 2,751 yards and 36 touchdowns along with excellent rushing figures such as 898 yards and 13 touchdowns, Samuel was rated as a three-star recruit.

After graduating from Chapman High School, Samuel decided to go to the University of South Carolina where he played football on the South Carolina Gamecocks football team. He redshirted in 2014, which was his true freshman year.

In 2015, his sophomore year, he got a chance to play but was restricted to only 5 games. Early in the season, he strained his hamstring causing him to miss the next seven games. He would eventually finish his sophomore year with just 12 receptions for a meager 161 yards and a solitary touchdown.

2016 was far better for Samuel as he was able to play in 10 games even though suffered another hamstring problem in the first game of the season. He had 783 yards on 59 receptions, 1 receiving touchdown to go with 6 rushing touchdowns that year.

Unfortunately, though, his junior season was also cut short after he got off to a high-flying start in the first three games. He had back-to-back kickoff return touchdowns in the first two games and had 250 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns before even finishing three games. However, before he finished his third game, he suffered a major injury breaking his right fibula as his leg was bent backwards during a tackle. As a result, he missed the rest of the season.

Before the 2018 season started, Deebo decided to return to college which turned out to be a good call in the end. He had his best year playing 12 games, and posting 882 receiving yards from 62 catches and 11 receiving touchdowns.

Samuel was a member of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was selected with the 36th overall pick in round two by the San Francisco 49ers. From his time at the University of South Carolina, Samuel had proved his worth with his on-field performances. Moreover, his unique ability to play the wide receiver position coupled with his running and kickoff receiving game added much more value to his draft stock.

Samuel also had a fairly decent performance at the 2019 NFL Combine. He ran his 40-yard dash with a time of 4.48 seconds which is bang on the average for wide receivers in the NFL. At just around 6 feet in height and a weight of approximately 215 lb, Samuel was a great prospect for a team looking to improve their offense.
