Established in 1959, the Kansas City Chiefs compete in the AFC West Division of the National Football League. The Kansas City Chiefs were originally established as the Dallas Texans as one of the inaugural teams in the American Football League (created to rival the National Football League in 1960). Since the AFL-NFL merger came into effect in 1970, they have reached the postseason 22 times. The Kansas City Chiefs appeared in the first-ever Super Bowl, as the American Football League Champions.
