About Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are part of the NFC South division of the NFL. Established in 1965 as an expansion team, the Falcons were originally supposed to be a part of the American Football League (pre-NFL-AFL merger). However, the franchise joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1966. When the Falcons franchise bid was made in 1965, it became the costliest franchise in the NFL during that time ($8.5 million). The Falcons did not find too much success in their first three seasons, with a record of 11 losses in each of the seasons. The team picked up their record in the late 1960s and the 1970s with the help of legendary linebacker Tommy Nobis and defensive end Claude Humphrey. According to Forbes, the Falcons are valued at around $5.2 billion as of October 2024.

Atlanta Falcons Next Game

The Falcons entered the 2024 NFL season with a new head coach Raheem Morris after relieving Arthur Smith from head coaching duties in the offseason. However, that was not the biggest offseason move that Atlanta made in 2024, as they went out shopping in free agency and signed prized possession Kirk Cousins to a 4-year deal worth $180 million. As of the first six weeks into the 2024 season, both moves have paid well as the team is sitting comfortably in 1st place with a 4-2 record, with their only losses coming in week 1 and week 3 against Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs respectively. They also have one win against each of their divisional opponent through the first six games with the second leg remaining against all of them.Atlanta's schedule before heading into BYE week is pretty daunting as their next five opponents are Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and Denver Broncos. However, after BYE week, the Falcons have a pretty favorable schedule rest of the season. They will face three teams in New York Giants, the Carolina Panthers, and the Las Vegas Raiders in the last month and a half who have a combined 5 wins through the first six weeks of the 2024 season.

Atlanta Falcons Roster 2023-24

Kirk Cousins would have an embarrassment of riches at skill positions to work with starting with Bijan Robinson in the backfield. Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Darnell Mooney headline the pass-catching group along with the 6th best o-line heading into the 2024 season (via PFF). The Falcons' defense added Matthew Judon to the lineup which consists of Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata, and Arnold Ebiketie. It will be a massive help in improving the 20th-ranked rushing defense from 2023 (via FOX Sports). The secondary which consists of star power in A.J. Terrell, Jessie Bates, and Mike Hughes only got better with the addition of Justin Simmons. Falcons also have one of the most consistent kickers in the league in Younghoe Koo.
